calling for blood donors, Mulege, SR

willyAirstream - 12-13-2013 at 10:50 AM

Jorge Yee, senior, is scheduled for heart surgery and needs a supply of blood. You can donate at the Santa Rosalia clinic, to his account. Jorge runs the water store in town and runs water to the beach folks, as well as starting the charitable group, Mulege in Motion llc. His son runs the beer/propane/water store under the bridge. Great folks.

Best of luck for the donations and for his successful surgery!

I think I read that some hospitals in Mexico have an upper age limit for donors --- can't be over 65? It would be good to know if that is true or not.

'Uncle Erle' thought a lot about Jorge!

We sure wish Jorge a full recovery!

Jorge Yee made quite an impression on author Erle Stanley Gardner... even putting young Yee on the cover of the 1967 adventure book 'Off the Beaten Track in Baja'...

Some photos from the book:

do they care if your blood fizzes a little? but seriously, doesnt it have to be a certain type??

willyAirstream - 12-13-2013 at 11:50 AM

It is a general donation. All types accepted as it replaces the stock. So if 20 liters are donated, he gets 20 of his type.
David....wow, I will post those on Jorge FB page, they will love to see those. Very Cool!! THX
Is the book still available?

Buena suerte con tu corazón, Jorge.

Good for you, Willy, for helping an old friend of many years. Wish I was there right now. Jorge has a ton of history in Mulege and a thousand friends. A hard-working fellow who has been through hell, but never lost his smile.

Here's a couple Jorge photos you are welcome to use and I hope the family likes them.

Jorge back in the day..1975 at his downtown tackle shop, Jorge's Tackle, right across from the downtown Pemex. We were almost the same age when I learned about jigging jurel with Yo-yo's from Jorge and another character named Duvall. Great times.

His great smile as a young man.

His great smile..as an older man (2008), even after the flood that destroyed his park near the bridge. Determined hombre..He had to start work all over again.

Give him my best, Willy, and thanks again for doing this. Tell Jorge all us old-timers hope he gets better fast. Get out of that hospital and home to your family. I know about hospitals!

Buena suerte con la sangre. We all love you.

Another shout out from way north in the land of ice and snow.

Way to get involved Willie!

I hope to be riding with some better folks than last time on another trip to Carnaval. This group has already specified that they want shorter riding days and more location time to meet folks and enjoy the sights. Hoping to keep it to 4 riders so I'll be staying in touch....

Jorge and I know each other since the very early 70, he also owned the first real cruisers, more than 30 ft. His brother Mario was the deck hand. He also owned the Casitas Hotel Resturant, and at that time served the best Caguama to be had in Mulege.

Buena suerte Jorge y Dios te cuide.

fyi,,, you might want to check and verify....

we tried to do this last year for a friend in the Orchard.... they only take blood donors certain days of the week and certain hours those days.. so you might want to check before a group goes up...
oh, and that time they would not take blood from over 60 folks.. guess it might be worn out...
might be different this time...
good luck...

He really appreciates the pics!!!! He is in good spirits and will head to La Paz this week, then on to Mexico City for the surgery.
He has received 8 liters from donors and that was the amount required. SR will not accept donors for his account, ony CC and La Paz hospitals. No age limit, but persons with tats are not accepted or with hepatitis etc.

willyAirstream - 12-17-2013 at 07:20 PM

Things change in Mexico.....He was informed today that more blood is needed. There is a van leaving tomorrow morning at 7am for CC and returning to Mulege about 4:30. Meet at Jorge Yees store under the bridge. Van holds about 9 people.
