2013 Baja 1000 on TV

TMW - 12-13-2013 at 05:51 PM

The SCORE web site says the Baja 1000 will be shown on TV Thursday Dec. 26th at 9pm Eastern 5pm Pacific on ESPN2.

Also on Sat. Dec.28th at 4pm Eastern 2pm Pacific on ABC. It notes the pacific coast times vary want ever that means. Usually the network is 3 hrs later on the pacific side but this may be in conflict with a football game. Lots of bowl games coming up

I say check your local listings for correct time.

edited to correct time to 5pm today.

I may be "out of range" depending on when the waves are coming. Hmmmm. Good to remember though. If I'm in civilization on the 26th or 28th, check the local store/bar/restaurant!!!

Sweetwater - 12-20-2013 at 06:19 PM

I really hope that SCORE will honor Kurt Caselli and his family. Those of us on moto's and the moto community suffered a serious loss.

I'll be watching!

PRESS RELEASE

Returning to network television for the first time in several years, this year’s Tecate SCORE Baja 1000 desert race will air as a one-hour special twice this holiday week, once on ESPN2 and once on the ABC Television Network on the new World of X-Games show. Thursday’s premier will be at 8 p.m. EST/5 p.m. PST on ESPN2 and again on Saturday at 4 p.m. EST/2 p.m. PST on ABC TV.

SCORE CEO and President Roger Norman has said since he purchased SCORE last Dec. 20 that getting SCORE races on national and international TV where of paramount importance to the future of the sport and of SCORE International.
“For SCORE to move forward in the direction we have programmed, this show is a major step on that road,” said Norman. “We can’t wait to enjoy it with not only our racers, crews, family and friends, but the entire new world of viewers who will be exposed to what is truly the original form of extreme motorsports.
“This is where we’re headed and we encourage all of our SCORE racing fans to tune in and experience this new level of broadcast coverage of SCORE desert racing. This is the first of what we hope will become many national network broadcasts of SCORE races. We intend to use the success of this broadcast as a springboard to launch a full six-race national broadcast schedule for our 2014 SCORE World Desert Championship series.”

How about a more contemporary Parnelli Jones, from a few years ago:

From a collection of photos I took in 2007 at SCORE's "40 Years to Glory" - a 40th anniversary of the Baja Mil. The first photo on the page is of Bruce Meyers and his Manx.

Merry Christmas!

I'm on stand-by, waiting for the fun!:bounce:

vgabndo - 12-26-2013 at 07:26 PM

A fun show! And it is still mostly all about the guys who sit in a roll cage the whole way. The bikes got a couple of minutes and a memorial. I wanted more motorcycles!

David K - 12-26-2013 at 11:09 PM

It was very well done and better than previous TV shows that tried to show an 18 hour + race in 60 min. (incl. 15 min. of commercials)! The British host kept calling it a 'rally', and saying it was 1000 miles long (even after the 800+ exact mile figure was mentioned, and special in that it was the longest loop Baja 1000 ever).

Very nice tribute to the m/c racer who died, as well...

TMW - 12-27-2013 at 10:11 AM

It was OK. Too bad they can't get someone to host it like when Bob Bower and Dave Despain did them. People that knew about off road racing and could relate with the racers in telling a story.

Better than I expected

neilm81301 - 12-27-2013 at 01:47 PM

.. but, yeah, how about a narrator who knows what he's talking about? I thought they handled the memorial/tribute pretty well.
