There is a fish camp at animas inhabited most of the time. The Yurts are out at Alacran beach not accessible by road. There is enough traffic in and

We've never camped there, but last Christmas/New Years we made a day run down and there were families camping there. There are some cool spots, if
you're lucky to get one.

The Dana Hills High Marine Biology Field Trip has been going there for many year (Spring Break, I think)... Neat place, Las Animas "The Spirits"!

I plan to check it out. We are going to go the east side of baja past San Felipe and then over to BOLA and south of there until Mex 1 again. I have

I've truck camped and boat camped there a number of times, but not in the last few years. Never a problem. The sand beach and dunes to the south of

It is as safe as anywhere in Baja. the road south through to El Arco is rough and washboardy so going slow is advisable. You can also camp at San
Rafeal beach along the way, make a little detour into San Francisquito, or on the way just before El Arco up on mesa de Carmen stop in and see some of
the best cave paintings outside of going all the way up to sierra San Francisco. You can also pull into Pozo Aleman and see an old gold mining
operation and finally pull into El Arco. It was mostly adandoned the last time I was in there but with the price of gold staying relatively high I
have heard that the town is opening up again. Let us know what you find.

We camped at Las Animas a couple weeks ago. The dirt road from BOLA to LA turn off is pretty chewed up/rough but certainly useable , low with deflated
tires, watch out for sharp rocks ! I drove the parallel sand road most of the way down. It is much smoother ride, no rocks but your vehicle should be
off road/sand capable. Sand gets pretty soft and deep in places !
From the turn off into LA is a fairly good trail but stay on the track as it also is sandy but easily passable.
The fish camp has been abandoned for quite some time, we saw only one other camper and his dog the two weeks we were their !
There is one friendly Mexican on the very south end of the beach who collects tropical fish and trucks them to Ensenada. Nice guy and would be helpful
if you needed assistance.
The halibut fishing was great off the beach just across the estuary which you can drive across at low tide to reach the best camping spot at the base
of the rocky hill! Small Krocodile chrome lure is the ticket .
Make sure you have a good spare tire or two and have a good time.

You won't be sorry--------it's deffinitely "old Baja" and was my yearly destination for many years prior to about 7 years ago when all my buddies
backed out on going with me. It IS remote-------it's true charm, to me. You can camp right on the beach with a mangrove baylet behind you and the
Sea of Cortez in front of you. Heaven!!!!
