I know, this is the overdone subject of all time.
However, this is a bit different.
Saturday we fly to Mexico City and then on to Puebla for a week. (just as good as Baja, folks, just altogether different)
Anyway, assuming that I can talk them into a 6 month visa at MEX will I be able to hang onto it for our annual 10 day trek to BOLA next April?
The time frame fits, for a 6 month visa.
Just wondering if the modes of transport- airlines vs. pickup truck- and the vastly different areas visited will negate the value of using it in
April.
All things considered my inclination is to give it a rip.... still have never been checked between the line and LABay.

FM3's are issued for a year and renewable for 4 more years. They provide for multiple exit/entry to Mexico.
FMT is a maximum 6 month tourist visa - supposedly for one trip only. By auto, they never make you turn it in when you exit Mex but by air they do.
A couple weeks ago we drove to Mazatlan and my wife got a 6 month FMT at Sonoyta AZ. Due to an emergency, she had to fly home and had to surrender
the FMT to the airline before boarding. The airline then turns it in to Imigration. She had it 5 days.
I think this kind of answers you question.

If you fly out you will have to surrender your FMT.

You sud get a new fmt every time you re inter Mexico. and you should turn in your fmt when you leave even when you drive out. if you don't the next
time you apply for one if they check the computer and it shows up that you did not turn one in you will need to pay a fine first or be denied a new
fm2. the Mexican gov. computer systems are getting better all the time.

In Mexicali they make it very difficult to surrender your FMT. At the old border there is no parking on the Mex side so you would have to cross into
US, find a parking place, then walk back across to imigration and then walk back thru the pedestrian entry to US. San Luis Rio Colorado and Algodones
have the same basic setup.
A FM3 or FM2 is supposed to be stamped "Salida" when you leave Mex, the imigration personel in Mexicali and Algodones refuse to do it saying it isn't
necessary. When I want to leave, I have to get it stamped in San Felipe to be sure of getting it stamped. (If you're not going to be in your home
area of Mex on renewal date, you had better have had the exit stamped to avoid penalties.

just thought maybe someone had a good tip as to how to hang onto the FM-T (see, I got it right this time, a little rummy the other nite)
will try to talk them out of taking it in MEX and will let you know how it came out.
