Hotel recommendations in Catavina

for December 23, busy time and last time we ended up
at the Pink Nightmare on the highway - it was the first
time everyone was up and out at the first light .........
anyway, we would like to by pass that experience - I could
not find anything when I placed this in the search button -
the name of the current large hotel on the highway - to the right when we drive in - if anyone has that and weather one can make a reservation.

Then there is the bunk rooms at Rancho Santa Ynez (1 mile south of Cataviña on the paved side road)... if they are still available? The president of Mexico slept there, afterall!

Having stayed in the Pink Palace 3 times now, and having heard the high-ish prices for the other place, my next stay in Catavina will be at the Baja Cactus in El Rosario. There's no more peso-guy in Catavina anymore, so really, what's the point anymore.

Unless you're actually in Catavina on purpose and not just passing through. The gated Catavina RV Park is ~80 pesos cheap if you have an RV or can camp out.

The "White Place" is all gussied up now. Fancy Smancy.
I just showed Roger's image of the Cativiña lodgings to my wife. She has been there only once with me four years ago. She says "that's where that drunk guy was".

Stayed at the "Pink Nightmare" before. Not that bad if you are on a budget. Hotel Mission costs more, but is worth the $$.

I just did some very quick math. Been there (Mission) 42 nights. My picture should be on the wall.

the old la pinta made the best (and maybe most expensive) margie's in baja. anyone had one lately?

El Rosario is 76 miles (about 1.5-2.0 hrs.) from Cataviña...
NORTHBOUND:

The first place you come to after crossing the big Rosario River bridge is TURISTA MOTEL (newest place, comfortable beds, inexpensive... but it has been a few years since we stayed there). On the right

On the left, almost across from Turista Motel is BAJA'S BEST BED & BREAKFAST operated by American Ed Lusk and wife Yolanda. Very nice rooms, good restaurant and bar (try Ed's tequila sunrise, made with fresh squeezed orange juice). Ed's style lobster (not on menu) is great and much better price than Mama Espinoza's lobster dinner. In season only.

Next, a mile more into El Rosario, on the right is Primo's MOTEL SINAHI (yes he spells it with an H). A 'commercial' motel, small rooms, inexpensive. An RV park is behind the motel rooms.

Just after making the sharp 90º right turn in the highway is Mama Espinoza's Restaurant and her motel entrance, called LAS CABAÑAS.

Between Espinoza's and the Pemex gas station is BAJA CACTUS MOTEL. Large off street gated, gravel parking area, secured at night. Security cameras. 24 hour front desk.

New rooms are a bit of luxury at economy price. Bottled water (no extra charge) and coffee maker in room. Satellite TV, English and Spanish channels. Heating, AC, Cieling fan, Internet wired into rooms, pressure boosted showers, dimmer controlled lighting on fan.

Catavina does not have a big list to choose from
I love El Rosario too but also enjoy being in
Catavina for the night - it is a place like no
other - if we can get things working more
smoothly for this trip around this car rental
stuff then camping near Santa Inez is what
I think would be really fun - if it is not too cold
right now for that

or staying at that white place is the other option

It is beautiful, but that high desert is extremely cold in the winter at night.

we stayed in the white hotel and loved it! waking up NY
morning in Catavina and walking thru the desert the first
day of the new year - it was the frosting on a cake of a
quick but full journey

The redone hotel has very good A/C splits which also have heat pumps. Both hot and cool work well.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned the Hilton hotel there!
