Mulege-area vet services?

We've been planning our Baja trip the past month, were getting pretty excited as next week was departure time.... then unfortunately our dog (a 12 year old beagle) had a health scare that's making us reconsider spending the month in an isolated Mexican town.

I *think* it was a reaction to a common medication, but we're not 100% sure. In any event it got me thinking long & hard about the difficulties if say her meds were lost or stolen - she's a happy and mostly healthy critter but at 12 years there are a couple Rxs she relies on to stay pain-free, etc. To say nothing of if there's a relapse of this most recent thing.

So we're kinda leaning against the trip. Which is a serious drag. Just to weigh the pros & cons tho, thought I'd check if there are actually any reliable vet services in Mulege or area.

Yes, there is a vet here during the winter. He will even make house calls if needed. So, pack your bags. [ and sweaters :-)

I'd ask about the specific medicines your dog needs and have someone ask the vet if he stocks it. Really, everything else like an accident or developing a new condition is impossible to predict. So, make sure you can take care of what you KNOW he needs and head down.

"Most" pet RX can be filled by a local pharmacy and you can also pick up pet supplies at many local grain stores

She takes gabapentin and meloxicam (Metacam) for joint & back pain. And occasionally dog-friendly antibiotics due to flare-ups from an old throat injury. But yeah, I have no idea who to ask to confirm something like this... guessing there's no website for the vet!

Here is the phone number for the PAW animal Clinic in Mulege.
They are basically a spay and neuter clinic, but also stock and do a lot of medical analysis, etc.

Mulegena volunteers there, also.
And there are Mexico vets I think 1 or 2 in Mulege, also.

On Edit: and if it gets real bad or you are more comfortable there is a large animal vet in Loreto from northern California. She will see animals on request and stocks meds from the states.

Gabapentina is available (and relatively cheap) you can call the pharmacy San Diego, #153 0308 for the othermed.
