I am signing up for the San Diego 100 (http://www.sandiego100.com/) which is run in the mountains east of San Diego. I had originally planned on running it a few years ago but the race fell on the same weekend as our daughter's planned delivery date. My wife suggested I go ahead and do the race as our son was late anyways. It sounded like a great idea until I thought about explaining it to her mom:lol:. So now with the kids a little older (5 and 3) I'll give it a go.

Just read a quote today about ultra running that I agree with....it's 80 percent mental and the rest is in your head....

dtbushpilot - 12-26-2013 at 10:23 PM

Be a better person and set a better example for others.........maybe I'll just try to lose a few pounds instead:lol:

EnsenadaDr - 12-26-2013 at 11:07 PM

Ha ha I guess you already made honesty a resolution a long time ago!! Tell me are you the beautiful girl in the avatar?

David K - 12-26-2013 at 11:11 PM

That cracked me up...

55steve - 12-27-2013 at 12:07 AM

I was going to say quit smoking but that was accomplished 13 months ago. I suppose I really need to get out more since I retired - I have 2 boats that have only been out once each in the last year!

bajamedic - 12-27-2013 at 05:13 AM

Rocks in Baja... a pile of them???

Hmmmm, bacon... I am glad you mentioned that. JH

Ateo - 12-27-2013 at 06:56 AM

Waves. Get more waves. I'm starting early. Doing that today.

DianaT - 12-27-2013 at 07:32 AM

1. Sell another piece of property so I can spend more of my son's inheritance while we are still healthy.

2. At this ripe old age, finally learn to be less trusting and choose "friends" far more carefully. The old back is tired of feeling the knife.

3. Continue to enjoy where we have moved for at least another year or two before moving on.

4. Ignore the 250 excuses I can find to not go for my morning swim. Speaking of which, this morning, posting this is NOT a good excuse --- off to the pool!.

nbacc - 12-27-2013 at 08:30 AM

Being a better person (in general), improving on my Spanish, living the life I think I was meant to live, taking more risks (realistic ones) and don't listen to what everyone says is the right thing to do!!!!!!!!!! OH, and lose a few pounds also. good luck to me........and to all of you out there also,. Especially the trail run! Nancy

jimgrms - 12-27-2013 at 08:53 AM

pauldavidmena - 12-27-2013 at 09:56 AM

peace out!

DavidE - 12-27-2013 at 02:41 PM

Yeah me still here. It's a real blast "trying to keep abreast of a decomposing car and human body" on a fixed budget".

I finally found out why my lab albumen levels were running abnormally high. Chronic kidney and urinary tract infection. This stuff is hammering me. Tried Amoxicillin, then Septra F, no joy. Now running a slight fever. I just purchased Ciproxacin and am dosing at 750 mg BID.

It may well be that my traitorous cuerpo is going to force me to move closer to medical facilities. This kidney thing is worrisome. Plenty sick.

EnsenadaDr - 12-27-2013 at 02:43 PM

David maybe you could get an ultrasound of the kidney shouldn't be too expensive in Mexico might have an obstruction somewhere.

I was Cat Scanned a few years ago in the US and they found a 30 X 16 mm tumor on my left kidney. Maybe it isn't 30 X 16 mm any more :(

Also had a malodorous well you know...

I may have to head by ABC to Tijuana this coming Tuesday, then cross over and get to Scripps. I am unable to walk very far.

Hope 24 hours is enough time for cipro to let me know if a simple antibiotic can tide me over.

EnsenadaDr - 12-27-2013 at 04:15 PM

Sounds like you might need a New Year's tune up David!!

DavidE - 12-27-2013 at 04:41 PM

And last but not least

A new camshaft

You mean this comment by JJJ?

"Durrelllrobert why do you assume it's a 'he"( from your statement?) The 'hate site' has suspected Zapotec of at least being one, or possibly two women and a man. Although the 'hate site' often can't even get the sex wrong of one of their suspects they're trying to attack. ( Fulano said Josie, was a man, when she was really a woman.)"

Never been to the Fulano site but apparently he/she has

It is one tough habit to quit for many people. I know, but I am so glad that I FINALLY quit for good about 15 years ago. The only problem is that I also had to give up gambling as I no longer can stand the smoke in casinos.

Good luck, it is worth the effort.

EnsenadaDr - 12-28-2013 at 11:59 AM

You know there is a no-smoking section in all casinos?

You got that right!

While I can't stand the stale smoke in a place like a casino, I can still walk by someone smoking and get a little whiff and it smells good, and at certain times, like after a good meal enjoying drink, I still think I would enjoy a smoke. Fortunately, the desire passes rather quickly, but I wonder if the desire and thought of having one more smoke ever completely goes away. But then there is cost anymore. I can't believe the price of a pack of cigarettes these days!

Twice over the years when I have been with a friend who smokes, I tried one cigarette and unfortunately, it tasted real good. Maybe when I am 95 I will try it again.

I know that feeling well Miss Diana, Happy New Year!

Pompano - 12-28-2013 at 01:56 PM

Quitting smoking affects people in so many different ways. I quit a 2 pack/day habit in 1990 when at my Baja home. I just picked a target date...for some reason I picked May 4th?...and gave it up cold turkey. Threw 4 cartons of valuable Marlboros into the firepit..(I thought of it as a symbolic 'sacrifice' to help my health and future)..and never looked back.

'She' helped to show me the way..

I frequent lots of casinos....playing Texas Hold-Em to support lots of needy gamblers...and thank God the good ones are smoke-free. Don't like the tobacco smell anymore for sure and will not let anyone in my house, boat or car with even a whiff on them. I tell all...Smoking is dangerous to your health! I'm not a radical at all, but I will kill you.;)

p.s. on those New Years resolutions, though...

No grains and more saturated fat for the brain, to keep dementia and the other brain malady away for my retirement days in Baja.

new years revolution? I would have more jelly beans this year! its not complicated

[Edited on 12-31-2013 by willardguy]

Sweetwater - 12-31-2013 at 01:12 PM

A couple of posts made me chuckle.......when my sons were in 4th and 6th grade, I made a New Years deal with them.......no soda and no chips in the house.....we quit buying them. I didn't restrict them at their friends or field trips, we just never bought any and brought it home. The pay was $100 each for the year and they both collected........and several of their friends were making the same deal with their parents the next year......the only catch was that they negotiated a raise to $150 each per year......Some of the best money I ever spent!

They're both slender and healthy young men in their 20's now and very good about what they eat. After a slip in high school for the older, they still don't go for chips and soda.....

Personally, I've had a bit of a challenge with some surgery this past summer so my resolution has been to focus on rehab and be patient to let things heal.....not a strong point.......so I'm gonna hafta respond that I'll take statins if I eat a lot of bacon........;D

Giving up

MrBillM - 12-31-2013 at 01:59 PM

I swore off Bacon for the year.

AFTER breakfast at the Diner this a.m.

I'm pretty sure I can hold out.

Like people that keep it simple :):)

Our parents were the same, we could "BUY" them with our own money which we made from jobs we had ... paper routes, washing dishes, mowing yards et al ... and picking up "pop" bottles ... remember those days

[Edited on 12-31-2013 by wessongroup]

picking up "pop" bottles

durrelllrobert - 12-31-2013 at 02:25 PM

never did that but I did pickup my girl friends "mom" bottle once. Of course she didn't pay me and my girl friend broke up with me when she found out

In the US and Canada the cost is mostly taxes and they don't REALLY want you to quit and lose those taxes.

The big tobacco companies don't make them expensive to get you to quit either. Just as an example the Duty Free stores at the San Ysidro border sell a brand called Sheriff in regular, light, menthol and 100 mm for $25 for 3 cartoons which is just over 80 cents a pack. They are produced using the same tobacco and packaging as Winston - Salem in Raleigh, North Carolina and taste the same.
Since I can afford them I guess I'll never quit (until I die).

Speaking of Which ..............

MrBillM - 12-31-2013 at 08:36 PM

Jelly Beans, that is......................WHERE can you find REAL Black Licorice (the only kind I like) Jelly Beans ?

All I find anymore (admittedly, our selections are limited) are CRAP. A lot of sugar and a "faint" odd taste.
