Loreto Recommendations

moonraker1 - 12-30-2013 at 03:15 PM

Needing some current recommendations for a short term lodging in Loreto. Need one night as I don't wish to travel back to Mulege in the dark. Thanks for any comments.

we always stay at the el dorado, cheap, clean and wonderful folks running it, one block back from the malecon, a dirt alley called pipila off ave miguel hidalgo(salvatierra off the main highway) then off to augies!

What price range do you want to stay in?

David K - 12-30-2013 at 04:34 PM

Coco Cabanas is nice :light:

As Howard asked, the price range dictates the recommendation. If you are OK with somewhere near $80-90 for a place with secured gated parking, a great pool and a nice restaurant, usually complimentary breakfast. try Hacienda Suites on Salvatierra. They are also right next door to one of the better restaurants in town, Domingo's Place.

I like La Hacienda just as you enter the 'main' part of town on the right, just past the new El Paso Hotel. It's just past El Nido restaurant, which is one of my favorite restaurants in Baja. I make an anual pilgramidge there for the night and dinner at El Nido of an especial 1/2 and 1/2 they do for me; Pierna de Ranas y Gordonize.... Frog Legs and Quail.... TO DIE FOR. Done to a turn, and all fresh. Also have a wine cellar with quality Reserve wines, the bottle will cost you as much as a dinner, but ALL WORTH IT.

Like the fly said whilst standing on the mirror, ''That's another way of looking at it!"

Coco Cabana's! Great place if they have a vacancy. possibly more than you want to spend though for just an overnight.

moonraker1 - 12-31-2013 at 08:17 AM

As a newcomer to the Nomad, I am impressed and thankful for all of the great responses. There is so much information here from so many experienced folks and I really enjoy the daily posts. Thanks again.

If you get in early, Coco's is the place. Lay by the pool, surf the net, sip premium tequila.

It is called Hacienda Suites. The new hotel you are referring to is called Hotel Santa Fe and is operated by the conglomerate Grupo Villa.

And, the restaurant to which you refer has not been called El Nido for at least five years. It was part of a family group of restaurants that included San Felipe, Rosarito and La Paz. The family member in Loreto renamed the restaurant Domingo's place.

The menu has not changed. The food is still great. Don't know how if you make an annual pilgrimage that you never noticed the sign change.

Posada del Cortes
Its very nice and clean, no secure parking if thats an issue.

We were very happy staying there last January, will prob be back in a couple months

Phil S - 1-2-2014 at 03:44 PM

David K. and the others that recommended Coco's Cabana's, is RIGHT ON!!!!!! Wendy & I stayed there one night on our way to Cabo. Quiet. Super clean. Ask for the one room unit if available. Otherwise, you'll pay more for the larger units. We love it. And 'great people' stay there!!!!!!!!

honda tom - 1-5-2014 at 07:20 PM

hacienda suites is now where I stay, clean cable wi fi food pool, about 60 per night 2 people. The big new white one before it on the right has a hard to beat rate for one person.

Prior post to prior question, but should help you. I agree with poster as to Angra Hotel..

Hola, rivera rv park is the nicest rv park. owners are hands on and keep the park extremely well and the bonus is, they have a restaurant on site that is very good as well but, the restaurant is seasonal.

they have the cleanest bathrooms and showers and in addition, there are a couple of areas that can be used by tenters.

there are signs on telephone posts showing the way and it is recommended that you make a reservation as they only have 25 rv spaces and i have seen it full whenever there is a caravan.

in the event you need a hotel room, hotel angra is highly recommended as it's a newer boutique hotel also with very hands on owners and is less expensive than the bigger hotels. it's walled and gated and has a very large parking area but cannot accomodate high profile units as there is an arched entryway.
