Chinese Food

dpwahoo - 1-2-2014 at 05:32 PM

Is there anything approaching Decent chinese food in Ensenada or Rosarito. Primo tapia didnt cut it, but I did see one in Ensenada that Looked like it could be good. It was right off the main highway, the road with costco. Thank you

Spending more time in the Rosarito territory these days, and a fan of Chinese cuisine . . . I see abundant restaurants featuring Cantonese, but I'm looking for Szechuan. Never found one.

Perhaps someone on the board will respond to your question . . . hopefully with this regional suggestion.

Gypsy Jan? You may know . . .

Sorry - Mexicali is the Place

The Chinese restaurants in Rosarito we have tried have been blah.

There is a small place in Primo Tapia that a number of people like, but we just never seem to get there - too many good fish taco and carne asada taco places.

Here's a link to a discussion about the history of the Chinese immigrants to Mexico who built the railroads: http://chowhound.chow.com/topics/633827

Edited to add: Szechuan? No way at all. The Chinese immigrants were Cantonese and so is the cuisine in the restaurants their descendants are operating.

Chengdu Place in the San Gabriel Valley is the hot (pun intended) place of the moment amongst the cognoscenti for Szechuan cuisine.

In fact, the San Gabriel Valley is the center of the universe for a wealth choices for good, authentic regional Chinese cuisine.

Also, it seems to be universally acknowledged in the Chow universe that you can't get good Chinese food in San Diego.

But, the Taiwanese places (Liang's Kitchen, Chen's Kitchen) get good reviews, but you need to have the ability to read the Chinese language only menu.

And the places in SD that serve dim sum, Jasmine and Emerald, are mostly dissed by people.

China Palace with its menu ordering, no carts, gets a pass from time to time - it seems that there is always a big turnover in the kitchen, so the current chef may not be up to speed.

I remember eating some fantastic Chinese food at a place in San Felipe, but I can't remember the name of the place, and it was several years ago.

I just ate at the San Felipe Chinese restaurant again ... and it's yet to disappoint!

During my last trip to San Felipe, the China Inn was one of my most memorable meals. I look forward to being able to go back on my next run south. JH

China Inn on the Chetumal in San Felipe

Yes......great food and plenty of it too! Prices are outright fair.

They moved into a new site from where they used to be, near the Malecon......so this place is the same owners. Never have to wait for a table.

I suggest dinning there during the peak hours of the day.

The only place in La Paz that I have had Chinese food is the Nuevo Pekin on the malecon. Mediocre at best. Saw another Chinese restaurant on the main road about 1.5 miles from Walmart toward the malecon. The smell was so stale and bad that I walked in and then immediately walked out.

Someone posted that there was a good Chinese restaurant Near the Soriana shopping center on Forjadores. Anyone know the exact name and location?

We've got good Chinese over here in Guaymas.

But then, it's owned and operated by Chinese. :light:

Is it True ................

That a half-hour later you're Hungry again ?

Quite a few Chinese restaurants here in La P including one very near nuestra casa at the corner of Madero y Allende. You do not want to come here for the Chinese food or Thai food either.

How about Mexicali?

In Mexicali the Dragon is still the place for the best but there are several by the old port next to the fence going back into Calexico that are definitely good and Chinese owners and cooks busy making it good for you!! LOL Take Care & Travel Safe--------"No Hurry, No Worry, Just FUN" bajafun777

One of my best friends, Maria Chang Lee, is from Ensenada. Her parents had a market there, but she had many "cousins" that had restaurants in town. I think many of her friends have migrated NOB...as has she!

5th of Feb away from the water, toward McDonalds. Just past Waldo's turn right on Felix Ortega Aguilar, go 5 blocks. Where that and Olachea come together, just after the Pemex is an OXXO. Kin Hua is between that OXXO and Just Burgers. This Chinese food is made by Chinese people that speak spanish!!!! Way more than you can eat and at a very low price. Has A/C and has always been clean every time I have gone. Next door at Just Burgers they have burgers, pizza and ribs, all very good. I think the pizza is the best I have had in town. Let me know if you have any problems finding it.

On the Costero or Reforma???

What "A" frame RV park???

There are no Gigantica markets in Ensenada
