Reccomend a hotel or B&B in La Paz ?

AKtundra - 1-14-2014 at 10:29 PM

We will be flying into Cabo mid afternoon, renting Jeeps, and heading to La Paz for the night. (next day, hitting Walmart & Home Depot for supplies, then heading north for a week of camping & exploring)

Paging through Travelocity, leaves me rather uninspired. (Can't really make heads or tails of a collection of thumbnail pics.)

Any suggestions for a Hotel/B&B in La Paz for first night in Baja, to set the tone before heading to the villages/desert/beach for some camping & exploring ?

You probably should indicate what type of place would suit your tastes and your budget. The choices in La Paz vary considerably.

I've just spent 4 nights in La Paz at Hotel La Concha. I got a deal through, I think, Travelocity for $54/night. That included a real breakfast.
I ate 3 dinners and one lunch there, and had 4 (strong) drinks and put them all on my room. When I checked out the total, which included 15 to 20% tips was about US $100.
The place is right on the beach, and has a nice pool. The rooms are pretty basic, but I just needed a bed and a shower.
It's a couple of miles out of town, but since you have cars it is only a few minutes and you're at the TailHunter end of the malecon.
At $54 it's totally worth it, at $100, probably not.
The staff, especially in the bar and dining room, is great.
To me it's worth it to be able to sit at the pool bar with nothing between me and the sunset except ocean! No traffic, and far less noise than in town.

Google these two

Casa Buena or Posada Lunasol

Both are located centrally, reasonably priced, dog-friendly.

We always prefer Club El Moro which is right on the malecon but at the other end from Walmart.

Voted best in La Paz by Trip Advisor last year and very reasonable

the Bahia Dorada is very inexpensive- it is located near UABCS (the university).

clean, nothing fancy. has a simple and inexpensive restaurant.

Have fun and if you get as far north as San Ignacio, stop by for a cold beer! we are only a little over an hour away from there.
