the kayak fishers who have been here the last couple weeks were super stoked with the inshore fishing around Asuncion...not much swell either, lots of
fish.

We had two guys come down to Santa Rosalia area and used one of the local charter guys for a mothership. He hauled their boats and gear out to the
north side of San Marcos Island where they could do battle with some really nice yellowtail. When they needed new bait or whatever they either called
him on the radio or went closer to where he was. When they needed to hand off fish, same thing. They indicated it was the best experience they had

I used to anchor up my old diesel cruiser, Pompano, on the northwest corner of San Marcos for a week at a time. More often than not, there were a
couple of sailing buddies there, too. Good company and more than a few shore parties.
I would tow a 18ft aluminum chase boat and use it for quick forays to lots of great fishing holes nearby and along the island. Could catch red
snapper for dinner on the aft deck with handline and bait while enjoying a c-cktail. Never had a better time. For kayaks, an island is
good...always can find a leeward side.

I'm pretty sure you're thinking of San Lucas Cove, captkw. San Marcos is an island, and yes, still mining gypsum. I've boat camped at the mine
village docks, but only snorkeled & picnicked on the few beaches out there.

Well....you put San Marcos in your question heading...so I just assumed that's what you wanted.
Chivato is quite a ways south of San Marcos with prevailing headwinds during the winter months. As far as I know, camping is still allowed on the
east beach by the beacon. Of course, it closes and then opens, then closes, then opens...so you plunks your money down and takes your
chances.

Hola..with the boats,, I run,, Chivato to San marcos is a bunny hop !! for many years I used to camp going past the air strip and not turning right to
the hotel and keeped going straight between two houses is a ramp down to the beach with a nice shelterd cove ... Ive heard the Baja coconut telagrapgh
say its open and then I hear its closed ??,, some times I would run down to Conception ...But,, I myself have not caught a fish there for 30
years....In all fairness.... I don't think I have fished B.C. in the last 30 years..and Thanx for the pic...watch many a sunup over that

Campo rene is another really nice spot to fish with a kayak...it is between highway 1 and Punta abreojos.
Surfing inAbreojos is great but it is NOT small. Abreojos is just beyond Campo Rene, and it is where you would go to for supplies and internet.
Weatherwise, the whole peninsula is pretty cool end of Dec and beginning of Jan....the further south, the warmer perhaps but not by that much.Udo - 1-20-2014 at 07:28 PM

Shari, it's Jeff I was with the group of kayak fishermen down at Bahia Asuncion that fished with Adam! Nice guy but he didn't share any of his
lobster!
Our group may plan on October or November this year as you mentioned that was the best time for weather in Bahia Asuncion.
