Travel Trailer Insurance

OK, I've tried searching but haven't found any info yet on TT insurance while going down the hiway to B of C. I'm going to drag my 20 footer and don't know if I need liability insurance for it. Anyone want to chime in? It's old, hull value is low.

What ever you are towing needs to be included on your policy. If you're towing your car or truck may not be covered.

I tow my Jeep behind my M.H. My Mex agent says it's covered.

Cliffy, I was told by the agent at discover baja that liability insurance is required in mexico for trailers and are not covered by the policy You buy for Your truck, unlike U.S insurance policies which do cover a trailer You are towing while in the U.S. only

Just go to BajaBound.com and open an account. You can plug in your information and vehicle values and it will give you 3+ options for coverage. You don't have to buy right then, but if you do, you print-out your policy instantly, and you are on your way. Depending on the value of your trailer (< 3k$ liability only) you choose your protection when prompted. Both my quad and utility trailer are on my policy, and because neither is valued at more than 3k, I don't think there was any charge for the liability coverage. The quad is only covered while on the trailer.

First, you have to have liability and that is added on to your tow vehicle. If it is not stated and listed, you have no liability. You can insure for value (which means comprehensive) but it is only covered while towing. If you want theft, fire, and stuff, you need a separate policy for the trailer.

Once you disconnect from the tow vehicle, you are not covered with an add on policy.

Cliffy....you definitely need to get at least liability coverage on the trailer. One underwriter in particular called ACE Seguros is probably the best option in your situation. You can insure the primary vehicle for the coverage you prefer and add the trailer for liability at no extra cost. Hope this helps...
