Map Forum?

bajadock - 1-26-2014 at 11:15 AM

In Ateo's La Fonda and Popotla trip report, Hook suggested a separate post for Otay Crossing Map.

DOUG, any room for a Baja Map Forum sub-heading that would not add to the clutter around here? I know there are several more experienced Baja travelers that have maps for the usual spots, as well as some of the less populated areas.

Sometimes the search function gets gummed up or provides 40 posts from which to sort "how to get to the effing SY ready lanes".

Baja Bound's maps and videos are also a valuable resource. David K and others have loads of resources, that if properly organized, would be very beneficial to Baja wandererlusters.

Discussion, ideas, never mind???

This is one of the greatest ideas I've heard lately. This would be nice. I would think it would get more eyeballs on this site as people google "Border Directions" n stuff. Maybe have some maps, some of Geoff's videos.

like your border xing maps.

border lanes seem to change every year or so,... so would be nice to have a GE compilation of latest ped and vehicle lane routings

i suggest for ease of sharing and use, y'all make maps in google earth and post kml,kmz files online. i find pdf maps of little use, much prefer files that work in GE

Hey, get in line!! Boating board, first!!!

P.S. It's a good idea. But, what about copyright infringement? Is that an issue? For some it isnt, of course.............

Yes, the Boating Forum should come first... and in the meantime, I have posted hundreds of maps in the Baja Historic Interest and Literature forum on Nomad: http://forums.bajanomad.com/forumdisplay.php?fid=24

The sub line for that forums includes 'Maps':

Baja Historic Interests & Literature
Natural History - Missions - Rock Art - Books - Maps

If you cannot find the map or a close up on any map, I am happy to try and help. Maps are a window into the past... so it is history... even a map from last year is a look at Baja then (or when the area was researched. Google Earth images are also 1 or more years old, typically).

I have another idea in mind regarding up-to-date map references along the peninsula. Haven't determined the best way to do it yet is the only issue. Something that came to me only in the past few weeks - so it's not something I'm sitting on... may - or may not - be in conjunction with another site add-on I'll be working on implementing this year.

Yes, I'm planning to have more intention - and attention - on certain aspects of this site during 2014.

I would think the historic interests forum would be appropriate for any past/vintage maps, etc., no?

Anything like a Community Walk Mapping Site with open editing to anyone?

Thanks for keeping Nomads informed.

Ideally - but there'd need to be some way to roll-back to a previous version, like wiki software does... just in case something goes awry.

:)

Check out the various map overlays that Trulia uses here:

that loads pretty slow...

I see most travelers using phones with slower data ...

the days of the lap top and desktop are gone
