Cabo accomodations

We are not looking for the 5 star hotel nor the time share sales pitch, just a nice place to stay for 2 or 3 nights. We'll be arriving by car and don't need fancy but want nice. Ideas? I said Cabo, but something sorta nearby is ok.

Mar De Cortez and it has gated parking in the rear. Google it

Mar the Cortez, as Steve suggested, has the most Nomad-friendly prices, great attentive staff, a pool, inexpensive restaurant that opens at 6 a.m..It is located about a block from the marina, and steps from Caba Wabo cantina. All the shopping (i.e. souvenirs) starts behind Cabo Wabo and goes on for several blocks.
I have stayed there many times.

Or if you want to try San Jose del Cabo the Tropicana Inn is very nice and close to the town square.
Cabo San Lucas is more of a party atmosphere. San Jose does have the party places too but the general vibe is quieter and more arty with the old Mexico village look and feel. Depends on what you are looking for. Both equally valid options.

We've stayed at the Tropicana Inn since the late eighties. It has undergone an ownership change and many upgrades since then. But for my money, given the pool, the restaurant and the parking, it is one great facility.

We were last there in April, 2013, and encountered a waitress that we first met back in 1989. Great place, but not nearly as cheap as Mar De Cortez. You get what you pay for.
