Books anyone?

Wondering if anyone has a copy of 'The Baja Catch' or 'The Baja Adventure Book' they are willing to sell ? ;D $100+ used online seems a little steep:O

Are you a collector?

If not, much of the info in those books are pretty out of date, especially the BAB. Just so much has changed. It is an enjoyable read, though. I have to admit, I have the oldest version where water locations were always given with magnetic bearings to visual landmarks.

The locations in the BC book are still somewhat valid. The launching locations have changed a bit. But ferget about those Rebel lures. There are much better trolling options, now, for in close. Yo-Zuri Crystal Minnows or the Rapala X-rap 10s come to mind. They are durable. I dont know that the broken back was really an advantage as much as the small size and deep-diving was.

Both are out of print.
Baja Adventure Book is available in San Jose del Cabo at Plaza Pescador in the book store there. I guess that probably doesn't help you but some one else might interested.

You could have mine, but I laminated most of the colorful pages into a kitchen countertop....sorry.

I do know that there are plenty hanging around in fishermen's houses down here, though. Keep asking and one will turn up.

AbeBooks.com has a first edition for US $30 + 3.75 shipping.

I have half a dozen signed first editions around somewhere in storage. When he first wrote the book I had Neil come and give a talk at CYC and he brought a bunch of books. I bought out all he didn't sell.

Vince from Coyote was there also and bought a book, maybe he will sell you his. Will write to you if my other copies surface.

These do not have the same cover of the Dolphin as I recall.

I like the El Rosario photo showing lobster stretching from waist to floor. That's what happens with age - regular coffee table books think they are original Gutenberg.

Amazon is showing 6 used Baja Adventure books for around $12.00.

My next door neighbor in San Diego is Walt's niece, daughter of Walt's brother Reeve, one of the Baja Adventurers featured in the book. At one point she had new copies. If you can't find one, U2U me and I'll see if she has one...

Funny, I was on the hunt for the Baja Catch last month as my old copy,was misplaced (recovered now) so I contacted Gene Kira, he said he will try to get another edition out in the next little while

Each edition had at least one additional printing. My 3rd Edition was a 2000 printing.

Get the last version of Baja Catch if possible. They wrote it in such a way that each newer version showed more spots to fish than the previous one. That way they kept you buying. ;D

The old silver and blue broken back rebel still holds it's own in my opinion. And you can buy 3 of them for the price of any of the newer lures. I've switched lures many times testing them out and it's always way up there. Their poor construction limits the size of fish you can catch. But if you're down there for an extended period of time you can go through those things at a pretty good rate and a cheap rebel is a good guarantee that you will still be in business 2-3 weeks down the line.

I'm not a collector but just was hoping to have a read through before our trip south! I ended up getting a third edition of 'The Baja Adventure Book' off Alibris for $1.50 we shall see how that turns out ha! However yes i am trying to get the newest edition of 'The Baja Catch' and its the one that seems to be hard to find at a reasonable price! I'm an avid fisherman with a kayak and big dreams of the Baja catch :biggrin::tumble:

The Baja Adventure Book is one great source of details to many of the cool Baja sites. The bicycle rides mentioned were on DIRT roads (since we already know it is dangerous on the narrow parts of the highway, Mexico 1. :yes:

Most people don't understand that "The Baja Catch" was written by guys that took small aluminum boats to remote places and fished them without live bait. For us Kayaks guys they are great. Trolling from a kayak is a great way to catch fish. Pitching lures is also great fun. On the Sea of Cortez watch out for the tides and the winds they can be brutal.

It's just amazing. Every tackle shop I walked into had the Baja Catch just a few years ago. What happened? I must be aging faster than I planned on.

I better hold on to my dilapidated copy and be more careful.

Just purchased a used copy of The Baja Catch 3rd edition for $54.00... Cheapest i could find for the newest edition which was important... hold on to your copies and take care of them as at this rate they may be a better investment than the Canadian dollar :O:P:no:
