Hands Up and Step Away From The Fridge!

Pompano - 1-29-2014 at 02:10 PM

I just came across this old photo and had to laugh all over again.

At a remote cabin many years ago, I had occasion to raise 4 raccoon pups after their mother was struck down by a careless speeder. That was the beginning of an adventure until we weaned them for new homes. But for a couple months we had the wildest crew of 'bandits' you can imagine. Those guys got into everything! A family picnic on the table outside was a riot! They loved it when our little girl would open the cabin door and show them the fridge with it's treasures...like pepperoni pizza!

I was outside when I heard all the giggling going on, looked at this scene....and grabbed my camera. Of course my lab pup had to join in the fun.

Can you spot the masked rascal in this photo?

What a Great Pic

Pompano, we raised three raccoon cubs as well! they are a handful! It took me, my husband and the two oldest kids to keep track of them!

Cute story and photo! Have lots of coons up here, very entertaining!

It's nice to know we can still buy that beer today at a few larger liquor stores. Oh, the memories........

I couldn't agree more, TW. That was a summer to remember forever ...with a lot of smiles. Those raccoons were quite the handful, but adorable nevertheless.

Hah...no problemo, amigo. Now we have them all wondering!

To explain, I edited out part of my previous post before Willard has a chance to see the edit. ...no big deal.

When we live near Big Bear Lake, CA. we had about 18 racoons we fed on a regular basis. Although we never raised any babies.
The families showed up in shifts:

The 9 p.m. shift
The 11-11:30 p.m. shift.
The two a.m. shift
and the four a.m. shift.
They came in packs of four to six at a time.

Some followed me into the kitchen and ate PBJ sandwiches, fruit with peanut butter, plus they liked jelly sandwiches plus they also seemed to enoy to gnaw on beef bones with scraps of meat on them.

UDO...THEY LOOK EXACTLY LIKE OURS....GOOD GRIEF, THEY'RE CLONING!!!

After about 3 months, I was able to tell some difference between the raccoons by their markings.
It's kind of like the whale watchers, after seeing them for a few times you get to recognize some.
