I have been very pleased with my current sounder (Furuno 600L) but even I have to admit it is starting to get a bit long in the tooth (over 10 years
old). In recent years I have begun to see side looking sounders start coming on the market. Lowrance Structure Scan, Humming bird 360, etc. Many
years ago a friend installed an Interphase scanning unit that was practically worthless.
Most of what I have been able to find about the newer units seems to be geared toward the freshwater bass anglers to evaluate structure. I am curious
to learn how they perform in the salt as they might apply to trolling and looking under kelp paddies or sargasso patches. Now that they have been out
for a few years I was hoping some of you might have first hand experience in our environment.

I have fished a couple of walleye tournaments with a friend who has a very good one..works great in shallower water...not totally understanding the
technology, would it even work without a bottom to bounce off of?
