What issues would one encounter by buying a panga already in Baja
other than the mechanical aspect ( I'm also a long time mechanic and I've owned lots of boats up here so not worried about that), say the licensing
and taxes if it was already a Baja registered boat and trailer?
Can a US resident own a Mexican registered boat and trailer?

Another option would be to find a gringo-owned boat with US reg & TIP in place.

A car mech should Never,,Never ever touch,,look at a Marine motor !!! I get at least 9/10 motors a year wear the guys brother was the top notch ford
mech at a dealership...and F-Uped his boat motor.....I make it simple for you....A REAL boat tech can repair a boat motor and a car (If his is Good)

Cliffy, some years ago I bought a 22 ft Arca panga from a Mexican guy here in East Cape. It had an old 55 Johnson. Had no trouble with registration
cause it had a factura. I didn't/don't work on cars or boats but I had no trouble with maintenance, etc. (changed the lower unit oil, changed the
impeller myself) and it served me well for about 15 years until I gave it to a guy whose boat was stolen. He re-registered it for a small fee and we
are still fishing in it when the weather permits, the fish are biting. There's an excellent mechanic in the next town and his prices are more than

captkw- well, I guess that because I'm a 50 year LICENSED AIRCRAFT MECHANIC :-) I can fix airplanes (yes jets included, from Boeing 747s on down to
Lear Jets) and boats and cars like I have been doing for most of my life? :-) I also hold a US Coast Guard License for my boating pleasure :-) and
spent the last 2 years of my working life at the largest boat repair facility at Lake Powell AZ. I maintain my own airplane and if I put my butt in
it, I make sure it is correctly done. So, can I work on boats now :-) :-)
Osprey- That is what I was thinking, I have been tracking pangas for sale and a few mention having a factura. I would think that is a must for
purchase. Does one need a valid permanent address in BC to be able to registrar a boat with a factura? Again this is just in the thinking stages

Cliffy, I not sure how the paperwork works. I believe you will need to a fm-3, to resister the boat. I know auto's that left in Mexico with a FMM are
considered abandoned under the LAW even with a TIP. It's not a issue until it's a issue, then things might not go your way. If I was was going to
leave my boat in Mexico, I would make sure the i's were all dotted. Mexico is getting better on enforcement regarding some things. I'm sure there
others here that know all about this.

Hola,,good for you....BUT on planes we don't do DIAGNOSTICS..plain and simple !! on planes we do annuals and scheduled service.... really
simple,,simple stuff that's done by the book...BiG difference...marine apps are rare bread of apps.!!I'm glad you work on your own motor....btw I ment
no harm to you...and I stand by my first post...car mec's should never touch a marine motor.....I was going to take my A&P test but found it a
boring job !!

BTW, with the new "fly by wire' airplanes have lots of stuff done by diagnostics now, some of it in flight before the airplane lands with down link
capability to maint before a/c arrives. The c-ckpit electronics are now WAY beyond my comprehension coming from 707s and 727s as a mech. It's a
specialty field now.
I'm going to look into how to buy a panga and keep it in baja when I get down there (if it can be done by someone on a 180 day tourist visa). I don't

Good luck on the boat. I hope you get what you want. Craiglist in Baja Sur often has boats. Also check out Bloody decks as to leaving a boat there. I
know a somebody that keeps one in Bay of L. A. that he took down. He just gets a tourist visa when he crosses, he has had it there for over 10 years.
