Found this foam looking stuff washed up for miles on the beach this morning. Seems like I've seen it before but never this much. It's like packing
peanuts but lighter, might be Cheetos that have lost their color.
Any guesses? sunflower - 2-11-2014 at 12:06 PM
At first glance it looks like pork rinds...maybe lost their color due to the salty water? if you pull them are they elastic?Osprey - 2-11-2014 at 12:08 PM
I think they are sea snail eggs but that's just a guess.RnR - 2-11-2014 at 12:12 PM
Egg cases from some marine creature?
Do the cells have anything in them? Or, do they look empty, like something has already left them?
If there are miles and miles of them, that would be a significant "spill" of something manmade.dtbushpilot - 2-11-2014 at 12:32 PM
There isn't anything inside of them, they are lighter than a packing peanut. I'm sure they came from something living.maspacifico - 2-11-2014 at 12:40 PM
Whale poop...don't eat it.DENNIS - 2-11-2014 at 01:00 PM
I think that stuff is insulation from the ***iyamiachi power plant. Do your fingers glow in the dark? dirtbikr - 2-11-2014 at 01:03 PM
Eat some and tell us what it tastes like, add some hot sauce.mtnpop - 2-11-2014 at 01:20 PM

In other words, so far nobody's got a clue. It would be nice to know however. Does it seem to feel organic or could it be packing peanuts conditioned
by salt water? If so it should burn like any petrochemical compound.BajaBlanca - 2-11-2014 at 06:49 PM
I have no clue and it does look pretty weird.windgrrl - 2-11-2014 at 06:49 PM
Saw this today washed up near LB, too. Looked like a casing of some sort. Not salp. Very light and wispy - like a shed snake skin, but whiter.woody with a view - 2-11-2014 at 07:15 PM
it is a lost cartel shipment. they are getting good and painting surfing monkeys, bart simpson busts, etc.... after floating around and breaking up on
the rocks, you are the new owner of 100% pure "rock candy!"
watizname - 2-12-2014 at 04:40 PM
Seems like a long time ago I saw those and at the time I related them to some of those little jellyfish that float around.motoged - 2-12-2014 at 04:46 PM
DAvid,
You are a smart guy.....do you think the stuff is organic or synthetic?
From the pics, I would guess it to be a man-made substance.....dtbushpilot - 2-12-2014 at 05:22 PM

It is definitely organic, kinda spongy and elastic. undoubtedly a byproduct of something living.Udo - 2-12-2014 at 05:53 PM
After the ***ushima meltdown, the stuff could be transformed packing peanuts!David K - 2-12-2014 at 07:12 PM

i've been looking at "egg casings" and haven't found anything similar to what is in your original photo.
i think you may have it! here are 2 photos of the "raft".
have you seen lots of these kinds of shells on the beach? any big wind or stormy weather recently?
dtbushpilot - 2-12-2014 at 09:44 PM
We always have big wind this time of year. Haven't seen snails but the foam that floats them looks a lot like what we have here.DavidE - 2-13-2014 at 10:37 AM
¿Salitral?
(I'm serious)BajaBlanca - 2-13-2014 at 02:43 PM

I found a small purple colored snail on the beach, looks like it still has some bubble drool hanging from its chin, I'd post a picture but I can't
find my camera, "maybe later".....motoged - 2-13-2014 at 04:01 PM
