Dog Stories, Pt. V

Gypsy Jan - 2-12-2014 at 12:03 PM

The white, deaf. one-eyed, mild-mannered merlequin Grate Dane sneaks into the bedroom at night and wraps himself around me.

We rescued him as a puppy and he was sick with the Parvo virus. My hubby and I bottle fed him around the clock for weeks. He now weighs about 125 pounds.

When the Rotts return from patrol and go to our bedroom, he runs away.

They don't hurt him, but they do intimidate him.

They say that if you invite a dog onto your lap or into your bed as a puppy, he or she will want that same closeness as an adult dog. It's a little easier for us with our 35 pound cattle dog mix, but it must be cute even with a Great Dane - until he cuts off the circulation in your arm by leaning against you.

My horse was sick so I drove my truck out to the ranch where I kept him and spent the night. It was warm so I just slept in the back of the truck with the tailgate down and the campershell open.

When I awoke at dawn and felt something in bed WITH ME it scared the daylights outtame.

After I was asleep, I had been joined by the (3) ranch dogs who all snuggled in.
