Apparently this bit on the web got peoples hopes up, but it sure looks like a joke:

BUT, if enough of us petition for one SOB, maybe they would consider it! We sure need this more than another Costco or Walmart! Here is the from where you can ask for a new store location:

That would be fantastic if it is in it's true form and not waterd down like Wal Mart and Costco.

This is BS........Charles S. Haw is Charles Shaw, TJ's house wine.

There is no person named Charles S Haw that works for Trader Joes as a spokesman or in public relations.....look it up

I checked the Trader Joe's website and they have a section for "New Locations Coming" with a list and a map.

Nothing is marked or listed for Baja or Mexico, for that matter.

I was at Trader Joe's Eastlake Thursday. I successfully transported several cases of T.J. wine to Ensenada to stock the new shelves here.

Saturday’s Trader Joe’s Baja Mexico post was an experiment in confirmation bias and communal reinforcement .

There is no shopping experience for which Baja expats lust more than Trader Joe’s. There was more enthusiasm for the possibility of Baja Two Buck Chuck than hallelujahs at a political rally for the next savior. The swooning was palpable.

I chose a Trader Joe’s hoax location, near Costco/WalMart/Home Depot/Office Depot in Ensenada, that was a highly plausible gringo shopping area. These high traffic retail centers are typical of Trader Joe’s settings in SoCal. Centro ‘Nada or Maneadero would never fly on the B.S. meter.

Within a few minutes of my early AM post on Saturday, several readers raced to Facebook with the story. The Baja expat community lit up with glee with the “news” that one of their favorite stores would be opening in their neighborhood. Although the clues of this hoax are easy to spot(Charles S.haw, April 1 ground breaking), it was being reposted on Facebook as “la verdad” 24 hours later.

Confirmation bias focuses brains on our core beliefs and things wished true. Although the internet has opened up the world to all sorts of information and points of view, most readers ignore diverse ideas and opinions. The internet shares more information daily than you could read in a lifetime. But, we are “wired” to anchor to our strong emotional biases to a narrow field of information.

The Facebook Trader Joe’s Baja posts also demonstrated the communal reinforcement(aka “we’re all still in high school”) that moves a hoax forward. Readers who have no clue of the identity of “Bajadock” or “Ensenada Gringo”, took their friends’ Facebook posts on Trader Joe’s new location in Ensenada as proof sources.

Those who really do know me also took my post as valid. Thanks for that trust. But, those who know me well, understand my playful, button-pushing, semi-anarchist view of the world.

So many of us fall into rut think about the world. Politics, religion, ecology and other emotionally charged issues & groups skillfully knead their followers’ brains into a dull mush. We know all others are wrong and should be punished. Us against them is a game that has been played since Eve became smitten with the snake. Adam obviously forgot the chocolates and roses on Valentine’s Day.

Nowwaitjustadoggoneminute there Bajadockster! You think I’m in a rut just because I like Trader Joe’s? Have you ever tried the ginger snaps or cookie butter? Hmmm? Have you?

Uhhh, no. I buy a little bit of my wine stock and almonds from Trader Joe’s. That’s it. Two items. And, no I’m not a food scold. But, the top 25 selling items at Trader Joe’s seem to be dominated by high carb, sugary snacks. When I want high carb or high sugar, I prefer beer and wine.

Back to what we read and how that shapes our minds. I’m reading a book on the subject, “How We Decide” by Lehrer. It’s a tad on the clinical side for me. But, it busts the logical decision-making myth that we think is our logic process and unveils how emotions dominate our choices. “How We Decide” also provides the psychological reasons why casino, another great scam, are so successful. My summary for this book: Politicians are a lot like casino slot machines.

We are so easily manipulated that we deny the existence of our emotional impulses leading us to the next promised land. We are all headed to hell in a fluffy hand basket.

What to do? If you are a Southern Baptist, hallelujah, work out your brain with a teaspoon of Buddhist reading. If you are a G.O.P.er, add some PBS broadcasting to your Fox News. If you are certain that anthropogenic global warming is nothing but a political money grab, check into the United Nations Climate Change site.

For those still peeed about my little gag yesterday and want to kill me(or worse!), please do whatever makes you happy. Not making fun of you, but, having fun with you. CHEERS.
