DO NOT try and start that motor !!! squirt some oil in the spark plug holes and have the "impeller" changed first !! word to the wise !!!!!!!!

Your boat looks like new !! some one will get a good deal !! the problem with impellers Is that when they sit and don't get wet and used..they get whats known as a "set" and can also break off the fins that get jammed in the cooling system...also as they get hard from sitting they do not flex over at higher speeds to allow the water to flow past the vanes..running the motor with earmuffs DOES not confirm the impeller is working...you can remove the impeller and run the motor on a garden hose all day long...I see soo many fine motors get burned up each year and the owners says " I ran it at home and it peeed fine !!" why/how can it be seized now ?? its your motor and your call !! but 4 years is way past time for a new impeller and possible wear plate (often overlooked ) hope this helps you and others and good luck on your sell on a good boat & motor....K&T:cool:

I just replaced the impeller on my 2000 Honda for the first time this year and the old one was still in good shape, and it had been stored without using it for three years at one point. I had a Suzuki for ten years before that and never replaced the impeller.

I have no reason to lie about anything in life !! and I have been doing this for a living for over 35 years !!! after you see soo many nice, clean, sweet, pricey motors toasted due to a old /not replaced impeller,,,,its not up for debate !!BUT,,each to there own !! I work on USCG AUX vessel ( homeland seceruty) vessel's that folks lifes depend on me knowing my job WELL !!....an impeller replaced right/correctly is pricless "out there" and is the most common failure....I also see SO many impellers RNR jobs done wrong !! and for some reason,,,Yahoo's forget poppet/PRV valves TOO !!....And I must ADD,,,Therms...DUH !! so,,as always on this blog...I'm Wrong and will craw back under my rock !!...-...BTW,,,ask Hanson about me !! and that was over 30 yrs ago !!!!..pie,tacos ,, free beers to all! oops ,,my shift at 7/11 is about to start !!

I have found boats are like women......all guys love um,,,but almost all/ most misunderstand them....btw...if you took that boat down to marina de La Paz and used the clubs radio,, I bet you would sell it in under a hr...good luck on a fast sale !! its hard to find a tender like that in such good condition/shape in Baja for sale !!...K&T ...ps,, sundy Im working on a 1967 Criscraft 37 footer thats a woody !!twin screw old school !!! hey bob, how can you sell this with a clear conscience? remember this?

NEVER get a 2 stroke...old school

they are loud and stink AND are banned in many locations
plus they suck gas

later the parts will be impossible to get...
thats how "they'll" eliminate them totally

4 strokes do break and "old mechanics" hate to learn the new technolgy but the 4 stroke is a better machine

 just razzin ya, looks like a fine blowup!

Love my Zodiak!! Goes anywhere from the open ocean to small mountain lakes ... Just toss it in the back of the truck and GO!! Good luck on the sale.

Maybe you should drive down to El Burro Cove and talk to Geary about mentioning it on the morning net. That gets it mentioned everywhere in the SoC.

Seems like there's always a cruiser looking for a dink.

captkw is spot on 100% . Impellers wear top to bottom and on their sides.
They are in an eccentric hole so that a portion of the rubber vanes are always
compressed. This is how they get that "set" when left unused for a long while. A lot of things wear in a lower unit that should be tested at the same time that a water pump service is done. A pressure/ vacuum
test should be done to make sure that your seals are not leaking, etc.
It is like that set of almost brand new tires that are on that RV trailer sitting
for a long time without use. They may look good, but try them out on that
long ride down to Baja and they just may blow out.

I will have to suppose that the 18 years I operated my 55 Johnson 2 stroke (on the beach with the others 24/7) was just a fluke. I don't suppose my stroking the impeller with the ears through all the gears, to keep the thing pliable once every two years counted at all then. The motor is currently being used by my Mexican charter panga operators and might go another 20 years. Don't suppose that counts for you know it all types.

Captkw: please never leave this forum. I personally need your input to find out WHAT NOT TO DO. The louder you proclaim "The Gospel Truth", the easier it will be for me to find the truth 180 out.
