San Felipe 250 - Live Tracking

Ateo - 3-1-2014 at 08:42 AM

I see 4X out in front on my live tracking page but can't see 1X anywhere. Anyone else?

David K - 3-1-2014 at 08:44 AM

Thank you Jon!:bounce:

Ateo - 3-1-2014 at 08:56 AM

Maybe the 1X didn't turn on the SPOT and is 15 minutes out in front....

Ateo - 3-1-2014 at 09:06 AM

From THR Kawasaki/Precision Concepts:

SF 250 update

Race Mile 80

4x in the lead
1x 1:50 back

TMW - 3-1-2014 at 09:12 AM

I hear they took out the summit.

TMW - 3-1-2014 at 09:27 AM

Rain took out the summit. 4x4s not able to get up it due to mud yesterday.

Ateo - 3-1-2014 at 09:36 AM

Thanks TW. Yep, they're driving down highway 3 right?

David K - 3-1-2014 at 09:39 AM

Indeed they are! 4x at 57 mph nearing San Matias. How will they do the race now? LOL

Ateo - 3-1-2014 at 09:44 AM

I think they're headed for checkpoint 3 then back south to town? It'll be the San Felipe 180.

David K - 3-1-2014 at 09:47 AM

Maybe they will do two laps of the southern half?

TMW - 3-1-2014 at 09:49 AM

They are going north at Borrego to follow the 2013 SF250 course backwards to the finish line.

Ateo - 3-1-2014 at 10:07 AM

From THR:

Bikes stopped on Highway 3 now waiting for SCORE to open new section of course. Time splits will kept same as they came in when race restarts. 4x in physical lead but 15 seconds down on corrected time to 1x.

David K - 3-1-2014 at 10:08 AM

:o wow...

TMW - 3-1-2014 at 10:21 AM

They probably have to get people back there for visuals and also to maybe finish marking it.

TMW - 3-1-2014 at 10:25 AM

Looks like 310x Mark Winkelman has a good lead. Mark was Tunaeaters team leader in Sportsman class the last couple of years.

TMW - 3-1-2014 at 10:32 AM

I'm hearing now the 4 wheelers will start at 12:30pm.

TMW - 3-1-2014 at 11:15 AM

Also heard there is a dozer broke on the summit and the 4 wheelers would not be able to get around it.

TMW - 3-1-2014 at 11:40 AM

New section in blue. Thia is from the 2013 Baja 500

willardguy - 3-1-2014 at 12:31 PM

Ateo - 3-1-2014 at 12:35 PM

Must suck to just be sitting there for a few hours doing nothing. I bet 1X and 4X are sharing a few beers. :P:P

TMW - 3-1-2014 at 01:17 PM

I want to be where they are.

I'm hearing that the race course only goes about 10 miles north of Borrego then over to the return section to the finish line. Not sure if that is just for the bikes or for everyone.

Ateo - 3-1-2014 at 01:33 PM

Nice Willard.
Race has restarted. 1x having problems. 4x is out front.

willardguy - 3-1-2014 at 02:02 PM

oh boy :( this has been a rough one.....

Ateo - 3-1-2014 at 02:03 PM

THR:

Last pit complete Rickey headed to finish in San Felpie 40 miles to go. 1x 10 mins down and running slow. Bring it home ricky !!

willardguy - 3-1-2014 at 02:04 PM

Multiple incidents mar the San Felipe 250 2014. Rain causes multiple landslides in the mountains above San Felipe, on the race course as it climbed through the mountain pass called ‘the summit’.

That section is now closed! Of the original 271 miles of the started race course, it has now been shortened to 219 miles. The reroute starts at RM 120 on HWY 3.

A “roll-over” at the start of the four-wheel competitors, now the event is stopped to clear the accident on the race course at RM 8. Some reports indicate fatality of the #18 kills a fan, on the course.

BajaRat - 3-1-2014 at 02:11 PM

BajaRat - 3-1-2014 at 02:34 PM

Bad news, be careful, stay back from the bad curves and close to the Monster Energy Girl curves. Have fun for us

willardguy - 3-1-2014 at 04:20 PM

Tom, it looks like they cut it off way short of the route to Tres Pozos... like just over to El Chinero, then back to San Felipe...

TMW - 3-1-2014 at 05:04 PM

Yes I posted it eariler after I did the blue line.

14SF250 clarification

PaulW - 3-2-2014 at 09:19 AM

To bad you all who are not at the race and cannot listen to weatherman.
Details & race report:
The revised track went on the highway from RM117! to K179 then N on the SCORE track to the saddle between the east and west race tracks. That means the revised track hit the original track at RM223.8. Then Check 2 was moved to around old Rm226. BFG pit was moved east to just before the Mike turn.
The result is a reduction of total distance around 50 mi? Look at live track to see the exact new finish miles.
Truck18 (Lopez) rolled at 90 turn as reported. They stopped the race and found no injuries to anyone and restarted the race after the ambulance cleared the course. I guess those first starters will have a time adjustment?
Major issue at RM108 an off camber 90 and during the heavy rain the road became deep in mud at one point 4 vehicles were over the side and into the gully. Only the Bronco 303 was able to get out on their own. All the vehicles rolled and had body damage. 303 (Wilson & Straightiff) carried on with a 10 mile deficit to Bronco 300 (Moss bros) and passed 300 at 2 poles in the whoops and finished 4 miles ahead to win the class. Second race and only win for 303. The thing finished as built mechanically except for a broken front axle and will need all new fenders and wing. Looks like the hood and all the lights survived.
I will post pics when I get to my computer.

TMW - 3-2-2014 at 11:40 AM

I see that the #18 TT finished 5th.

TMW - 3-2-2014 at 11:44 AM

I heard that SCORE tried to mark the course up to the Oasis as I had shown above in blue but time was not on their side. Some think if Chris W in ole yeller was marking it may have gotten done, but that's just spectulation, Chris was too busy racing. Now Paul may have gotten it done.

Thank you!

TMW - 3-2-2014 at 12:04 PM

Willard the speed for the MC is off. 3:53:33 would be 56.26mph for a 219 mile course.

======
Reason to shorten was bikes had no fuel service. So they used the saddle cutoff.
Wilson's are not marking any more. Roger uses his crew.

Surprise final standings -at least for me
Baldwin started 2nd and finished first on the road and Lopez (18) and Rob mac were right there with him.
Found out today Baldwin drove in the dirt beside the highway from San Matias to the Mike turn and he had it floored. Suppose he got a substantial penalty. That area is a speed zone.
