I have an 8 HP short shaft Honda outboard with very little use, looks almost new with zero corrosion. I don't know what year it is.

$700

Is it 2 stroke, 4stroke, did you buy it, found it Etc.

It's going to be a 4 stroke since I don't recall Honda ever making a 2 stroke.

Yes, a 4 stroke. I think it's somewhere around a 2000 model, my neighbor brought it down from the states but never used it. It looks almost brand new.

I thought I was interested until I found out it weighs around 100 lbs. Too much for this old man. Guess I'll have to look for a 2-stroke.

It weighs 92lbs. I loaded and unloaded it into my truck by myself and it was pretty easy with the built in carrying handle.

My 2008 15 hp Yamaha 2 stroke weighs only 79 lbs.

It's a good motor at a very good price (for a 4-stroke). I wouldn't quibble too much over the 10-12 lb. weight difference, the fuel economy and lack of stank will make up for it. The only drawback is you cannot find parts for Honda in Baja, whereas Yamaha parts are doable. Just make certain you have extra impellors with. Flush with fresh water regularly, and use Stabil in your gas ALWAYS, every tank-full. Plugs and oil filters can be interchangeable.

I had a Honda 9.9 new (2012) for a year, had problems with it, sold and bought a new (2013) Yamaha, love it more. Still, good luck on the sale. Such a deal!

I have a 15 hp Honda of about the same vintage and have never had one problem. The list price for a new Honda 8 hp is 2600 dollars.

Honda makes a great outboard motor. Had one this size on my 26' sailboat as a kicker and never had a bit of trouble with it for many years. (Although mine had to be a long-shaft). I loved the battery-charging function to use on the cabin batteries.

Seems a very reasonable price for a four-stroke already in Baja. Some boater who can use a short shaft will make a great buy.
