The year-and-a-half old male Rottweiler, when I get up to go to bed, races to the bedroom ahead of me and jumps on the bed.
I go over to him and he rolls over, tummy up and puts his head against me.
The weight of his massive head is like having a fur-covered, concrete hollow tile block bumping up against you.
I start rubbing his ears, cheeks, neck, forelegs, chest and tummy.
Then I gently massage the very tight muscles in his back thighs until I can manipulate them easily and I hear him sigh in relief.
He relaxes for a few minutes, then leaves to go sleep outside on watch.
We don't see him again until morning.

Seems like a small price to pay for dependable security.
