How to ship a box from Tijuana

vgabndo - 3-11-2014 at 02:30 PM

Our Nomad buddy Woody is doing me a big favor by receiving then putting a box on the bus in TJ for me to receive in Vizcaino this weekend.

My experience riding the bus from there started at the depot right at the border, and if it were me I guess I would go there and ask questions. Has anyone done this? Any advice to prevent what would only be a VERY inconvenient loss? No monetary value inside. I'm going to ask Woody to put my Mexican phone number on the box.

bajajudy - 3-11-2014 at 02:44 PM

Do you have Bajapack? I know they are in Ensenada.
We ship all our books with them. They have insurance that is reasonable. I have only good things to say about the service.

Bajaboy - 3-11-2014 at 02:46 PM

I'm heading down at the end of the month is all else fails...:light:

Bajapack delivers to the bus station in Vizcaino.

vgabndo - 3-11-2014 at 03:04 PM

I was just on their site, do they have a drop-off location in TJ? I don't have an account.

villafontana - 3-11-2014 at 04:43 PM

vgabndo, i live in Tijuana. If you need my help as a last resort, ill be happy to help.

shari - 3-11-2014 at 04:48 PM

Baja Pack is the way to go...make sure they send you the package tracking number so you can pick it up. Juan is coming to Gn on the 15th if you want to get it sent to GN.

villafontana - 3-11-2014 at 04:53 PM

and if u dont trust me, Shari has my picture on her facebook!!! lol lol

bajajudy - 3-11-2014 at 05:38 PM

Send it ocurre and you pick it up at the bus station.
Shari is right, get the número de guia, also take an ID, and supply your phone number if you have one.

vgabndo - 3-11-2014 at 06:26 PM

I'm all for using Baja Pack. I'm in no position to open an account, and they won't pick up in San Diego anyway, right. So Woody is going to have to be able to walk in and pay cash to send it on it's way.

Villa...could you call the Tijuana office and confirm that this could be done this Saturday? It would also be good to know the approximate transit time.

I expect Woody to chime-in any time with his input.

Thanks for all the info.

villafontana - 3-11-2014 at 06:50 PM

Vgabndo, i call the Bajapac office in Tijuana, the one near the border, but they didnt answer. Ill call tomorrow morning and ask them their service hours. In case i fall off the planet, their phone number is (664) 621 3750.

bajajudy - 3-11-2014 at 06:51 PM

You don't need an account...just pesos
Send it to you, ocurre. Ocurre is like will call

villafontana - 3-11-2014 at 08:01 PM

dont worry woody. i also didnt mean about the places to buy a flak vest jacket!!:tumble::tumble:

vgabndo - 3-11-2014 at 08:02 PM

Likinbaja, I don't think the package is in San Diego yet. I'd love to get Woody off the hook for a trip into the city, but it may not happen unless you meant 6:30 Saturday. Clearly you don't. I appreciate the offer.

Give Shari a hug for me. She checked-in from GN today on the phone and the Whale Magic Team is looking forward to your visit.

liknbaja127 - 3-11-2014 at 08:06 PM

Sorry we can't be of help Vgabndo, good luck with your shipping!
Will tell Shari hi for you.

vgabndo - 3-11-2014 at 08:14 PM

Villa, is it possible you could share Woody's load and meet him at the border and drive the box to Baja Pack without needing detailed instructions in your home town?
Woody, you'd still have to make a R/T through the border.

Villa, please check your u2u in the upper right corner.

villafontana - 3-11-2014 at 08:33 PM

Vgbndo chek ur u2u.

villafontana - 3-12-2014 at 09:49 AM

Vgbndo, i found an office of Baja pac, just a few steps from the border in san ysidro. If woody recalls there's a mcdonalds in front of a caliente's book. That plaza is called viva tijuana. Thats where the baja pac office is located.
This is the address:
Ave de la juventud ote, numero 808, local 23, plaza viva. Col federal.
Mondat thru friday, 9am to 6pm, saturdays, 9am to 2pm.

Im available saturday at 10am if he needs further assistance.

Nye - 3-12-2014 at 10:04 AM

hmm lots o nice folks on here-wonder if they would bring my UNDISCLOSED "freight" From TJ to San Diego-just kidding, (I have a vacuum sealer). Have a great day.

It's the mall/? where the ABC bus station is located on the perimeter. There are some kick-ass bars in there as well.
SALUD

villafontana - 3-12-2014 at 10:32 AM

Woody, after u leave the package, u can go to mcdonals for chow and the off to the bars suggested by Dennis.:lol::lol:

villafontana - 3-12-2014 at 11:23 AM

Woody, this the plaza. Left of the mcdonalds. Thats where the bajapac office is located. copypaste the entire url to see the picture.

vgabndo - 3-12-2014 at 11:46 AM

On Google earth I found both locations. The one at the main Bus Station, though farther from the border, seems easier to find. The one right on the border doesn't show on Google street view, and the neighborhood doesn't look right for the business. That image is 5 years old. No McDonalds, no mall. It is near the "dead cat" memorial along the fence. Am I looking in the right place?

Keep an eye on u2u guys.

villafontana - 3-12-2014 at 11:57 AM

ohh really?? no mcdonalds?? wow, then i was there 5 years ago. hahaha. and the funny thing is that i work like 2 miles from there. lol. Vgbndo, dont worry, that plaza is still there. and i called the bajapac office and they told me that their office still there!!

woody with a view - 3-12-2014 at 12:06 PM

Villafontana, where would we meet? the picture above looks near the airport? i was assuming i'd cross at SY but obviously Otay is better.

vgabndo - 3-12-2014 at 12:07 PM

OK Omar, I surely trust you. No problem hermano! Google Earth and Baja Pack's address there are sure confusing.

No,no,no Vgbndo. Thats the office they have near the Tijuana airport. Thats to far away from the san ysidro border.
No wonder it was strange to me that the mcdonalds wasnt in the border. Thats the last place the gringos visit before they cross to the US. lol.

vgabndo - 3-12-2014 at 12:10 PM

Woody, I think there is a screw-up on G E. I'm sure Omar knows the mall and the location. It must be right at the San Isidro crossing very near the bus depot.

villafontana - 3-12-2014 at 12:15 PM

indeed guys! Woody i can meet you at the mcdonalds saturday at 10 am, and then will walk to the baja pac office. then we could go to the honk kong place!!!:lol::lol::lol:

vgabndo - 3-12-2014 at 12:33 PM

OK here it is Woody. The green circle is McDonalds as shown on Omar's link, and the red one is the output from the pedestrian crossing to Mexico.

woody with a view - 3-12-2014 at 12:39 PM

got it.

edit: just to be sure this is SY, right? i can't zoom out but i'm guessing the white road on top left is the new road to Chaparral crossing?

[Edited on 3-12-2014 by woody with a view]

villafontana - 3-12-2014 at 12:42 PM

Got it as in yeah i got the baja pac place? Or got it as in got it will gonto the honk kong place??

vgabndo - 3-12-2014 at 02:57 PM

Yes, San Ysidro. Here's a blow up for context. The new Mexican POE on the upper left.

Don't know about Bajapac office in SY, but they always have a drop-off and pick-up spots at the stations. So there must one at Camionera Central in TJ. Don't remember any good place to eat around there, though never looked. That Camionera is pretty far on the Eastern outskirts.

hey guys..good news!! today i made a little recon mission to the baja pac office near the border...and guess what?? the office is in inside de ABC bus depot thats in the area!!!! im assuming that woody knows the depot, and unless he needs me as a translator, he doesnt need me at all!!! He can send the package himself on saturday from 9am to 2pm!!! Let me know if i can be of further assistance!! and dont worry about the safety of woody...the areas is full of cops!! :bounce::bounce::bounce: LOL

Thanks a lot my friend. You've been a big help in making me feel more secure about this shipping. I'm sure Woody will find the bus depot no problem, and we've already talked about how it seems there is no need for you guys to meet-up. Thanks so much for the offer.

I checked your Facebook page, your girls are darling!

woody with a view - 3-12-2014 at 07:33 PM

is the bus station on the eastern part of town or next to mick-d's?

villafontana - 3-12-2014 at 07:34 PM

thank u for the compliments on my gorgeous women!! i adore them!! And my offer still stands, if woody gets lost because he went to the hong kong place instead of the shipping office, i can go get him and bring him to the correct destination!!!:lol::lol:

No sir. The ABC depot is like 150 ft from mcds!!! just get to the corner where the downtown blue buses are, turn right, walk like 25 ft and there's the bus depot!!!!

vgabndo - 3-12-2014 at 08:00 PM

The red line is the walking route and the green starts right after Mexican secondary if you were driving.

Here's what the bus depot looks like.

Thanks again Woody.

it was supposed to be available for pick up today at 8am. he's prolly spending all his loot right now.

vgabndo - 3-18-2014 at 12:09 PM

After there was no response to tracking the first few tries, I gave up until this morning when I got this info. So, I'm about to head to town.

Thanks all.

Oh, I Googled Baja Pack Vizcaino and this thread came up!!!

I hope this will be a help to others in the future. I changed the subject line for easier searching.

Thanks again for all the help. Perhaps I will encounter someone I can help today!

Glad that all went thru as planned!! good day gentleman.

vgabndo - 3-18-2014 at 04:42 PM

There is nothing like a good plan in Mexico. I set out shortly after writing my post above and arrived in Vizcaino about two hours after the bank was shut down for the day by a power outage which crashed their computer system.

Yes the card came perfectly, I just couldn't use it.

Damn I wish my health allowed the consumption of massive quantities of alcohol!!!:lol: Or any at all.

Thanks all for your help.

Way to go Woody!!

BajaBlanca - 3-19-2014 at 12:12 PM

way to go woody! that was very cool of you to do. and everyone learned a new system for shipping things up and down Baja. we have used paja pack many times. Once I used the other service (name slips my mind). It was very difficult to receive the package as their hours were odd, their office was hard to find.

BajaPack is located at every bus stop that the ABC and Aguila buses stop at ...and I believe that nowadays can even go as far as Bahia Asuncion and La Bocana since we have that special ecotour bus that serves our communities. Make sure to send the package OCURRE so that anyone can pick it up. (I will double check this, but that is my understanding).

The only town that is being difficult and requires the person named on the package to pick anything up is San Ignacio. and that is because some lady picked up her sister's package and then said she didn't have the goods - the sister then threatened to sue BajaPack.
