Colegio Reina Isabel (In Real Del Mar) Question

phoenix2121 - 3-14-2014 at 12:07 AM

Has anyone sent their kids, or know of anyone that sent their kids to this school? I have an 11-year-old (will be entering 7th grade after this year) and this school seems to get rave reviews from expats...

However, I can't find anything about cost.

Does anyone know anything about it that they can tell me (even if it's not related to cost)?

phoenix2121 - 3-14-2014 at 12:11 AM

Like clockwork, I found the cost the second I posted this... go figure :yes:

I'd still like more info though if anyone has it... I'm assuming it's bilingual (since most of the reviews I'm reading are by expats). Any other info that you could share would be muy apreciado.

Where is Real Del Mar (Baja is longer than California and Oregon combined, after all with hundreds of towns and campos)? Many thanks!

Real Del Mar is at KM 20 on Hwy 1. Cant miss it, Its the second overhead bridge coming south from the Quota and is painted an Orange color.
The School is at about KM 21 adjacent to the access road on the East side of the Freeway. You need to exit the freeway at the South entrance to San Antonio Del Mar and take the East access road north.
The School is highly recommended.

My son attended that school and it is excellent. They implemented the AMCO English program which is now implemented in many private schools in Ensenada and around Mexico such as Colegio Grecia where my daughter attended, which is probably the best junior high school level school in Ensenada. The view there is gorgeous as well. It isn't cheap however. Probably at least $300 American per month if not more. They use uniforms which will run at least $250 american, and the AMCO book series which is over $400 American.

So the answer is in northern Baja just south of Tijuana? There are many km. 20s on Hwy.1, but Cuota and San Antonio del Mar were the clues as to which. Thank you.

willardguy - 3-14-2014 at 09:03 AM

get ready for a map ;)

EnsenadaDr - 3-14-2014 at 09:23 AM

that location is very easy to find. You go down the toll road and right before San Antonio del Mar, there is an exit for REal del Mar where they have a Marriott resort.

Probably 5 miles north of Rosarito.

According to the website, it's around 2000 pesos monthly... unless I'm missing something.

David K - 3-14-2014 at 10:12 AM

My point, beyond curiosity last night, is that if you are going to post a question about some single place on a 1,000 mile long peninsula, that was never talked about here before, please say where it is in relation to a known place... This forum has a lot of people in Southern Baja, La Paz, etc. along with a lot in other states and provinces....

willardguy - 3-14-2014 at 10:19 AM

exactly! how do we know that you were't talking about the dozens of other colegio reina isabel's (in real del mar) that populate the peninsula?:lol:

In fairness, I thought I was posting the location when I said "Real Del Mar." When I saw the signs on the highway last time I was there, I assumed it was a city/town and not just a neighborhood. Now I know.

The Real del Mar Golf Resort

Gypsy Jan - 3-14-2014 at 10:38 AM

Adjacent to the Colegio Reina Isabel is such a beautiful place.

Chef Martin San Roman (Tour de France and Rincon San Ramon, TJ) used to operate the restaurant there and there is a very nice shopping gallery and maybe the cigar smoking room is still open (hubby picked up Cuban cigars on occasion).

When we stopped by for lunch on the way home from San Diego, I would often see very nicely dressed children leaving school waiting for their ride home.

once went to a music show at real del mar, pretty place - i think performance space was a chapel, was nice venue.

what are room rates like?

dk: surprised you did not know where this was - it has signs on toll road, hard to miss. be sure to add it to your maps

EnsenadaDr - 3-14-2014 at 10:54 AM

Hate to tell you, you are missing alot. I just called the school. (664-631-3736)
for inscripcion (registration) 6990 pesos.
for 10 months of school 6990 per month.
for books in English 2200 pesos
for books in Spanish 3000 pesos
for uniforms 3000 pesos.
You can call them yourself to verify. That school was almost $300 a month when my son went over 10 years ago.

and if you're adventurous you can off road between real del mar and the free road, DK could lock in and fire up the ol' traction control!

David K - 3-14-2014 at 10:59 AM

I post in consideration of others reading this forum... Just the other day, someone asked were Elias Calles was... and that is a town... so, I think it is helpful and would benefit the thread if (near Rosarito or where ever), was added. Elias Calles is south of Todos Santos, by-the-way.

People that live in La Paz or live in Quebec or travel from Arizona to San Felipe don't drive along the toll road to Ensenada that often, or at all... right?

EnsenadaDr - 3-14-2014 at 11:04 AM

I was born in the Bronx.....do I need to clarify further??:lol:

Thanks for the info... you're obviously much more helpful than the website!

Any other good school options in the area? I'm not sure if we can swing that monthly (at least the first year - while we settle in)... we might end up homeschooling, but I wanted to look at the bilingual schools first.

There Are Two Good Colegios in Rosarito Centro

Gypsy Jan - 3-14-2014 at 02:07 PM

Right now, I can't remember the names, but both institutions do very good work with education and we have paid for children to go there.

If you are interested, I will find the information for you.

Ateo - 3-14-2014 at 02:08 PM

From about 2 hours ago. On my way to Puerto Nuevo.

EnsenadaDr - 3-14-2014 at 08:43 PM

what area are you living in?

EnsenadaDr - 3-14-2014 at 09:00 PM

This is not Real del Mar. These are two universities across the street from San Antonio del Mar.

We're still in the US, but we'll be somewhere between Playas and Rosarito when we make the journey in about 5 weeks.

I'd be very interested if you could remember the names. The cost would certainly help too... we can't much more than 200-250 month

Hi phoenix2121

Gypsy Jan - 3-15-2014 at 09:09 AM

This link is for the school behind the big main Telcel office on the north end of town:

http://colegiobilinguesantalucia.com/

The website is in Spanish and English and you can watch a virtual tour of the facilities.

The other school is Colegio Rosarito (duh!) and this link to a Facebook business page doesn't give you any contact info, but the map posted is accurate. It is located on the street that turns off the toll road and passes the wholesale location for the Jersey Dairy in Rosarito Centro - black-and-white cow statues!

https://www.facebook.com/pages/Colegio-Rosarito/198157373540...

I suggest that you ask your local real estate agent for contact info for the Colegio Rosarito.

Good luck to you and best wishes for a happy time living and educating your children in Baja!

GJ

Thanks!

I appreciate you taking the time to track that down for me.

Ateo - 3-15-2014 at 10:25 AM

So it sounds like my photo is not the school you were talking about. Sorry. It's a stones throw north of Real Del Mar. Maybe an 1/8 of a mile.
