tijuana's 2nd street tore up at smart and final

willardguy - 3-25-2014 at 03:00 PM

major construction, the entire west bound lanes are an open pit, as well as construction on the streets leading up to it. don't know what they got going, but the ready lane was less than 20 minutes, once you got to it:no: I think the free road coming in is a better deal, trade all that madness.....for a different madness!

They are resurfacing 2nd St to get rid of those awful potholes, and doing some pipe work while they have it all tore up.

Two weeks ago I was in Rosarito and took off for home like normal going on my way to the the Sentri. Well, the Sentri has been changed by Mexico and the Sentri we always had used going back into USA I was told by a Tijuana policeman is closed and won't be used no more. So, I had to make a go in a circle to get try and get to the new Sentri exit but the line was crazy long. What to do was just get the Hell out of T.J. and head back to the toll road going to Mexicali. The toll is about $14 dollars for the whole way back to Mexicali but I knew the Sentri would be about 10 minutes which it was and then just a quick ride back to my home in USA. This new Sentri I just do not understand why they changed the dang thing from the way they had it. The Sentri was WORKING, however I guess the officials just couldn't stand something going right for so long so they had to jack it up. So, the beat goes on!! Appreciate the heads up on construction.

Change in Sentri approach is related/necessitated by new border construction.

VIVA the old road!

And you didn't just use the easily found SENTRI lane at Otay Mesa because...?

Bajafun777 - 3-26-2014 at 11:54 AM

The Otay Sentri is not the easiest thing to get to either but since I was already going home to Imperial Valley we decided what the heck we will go through Mexicali since we know it is always fast in Sentri for us. The drive is not bad and the toll road makes it a snap. Take Care & Travel Safe-- "No Hurry, No Worry, Just FUN" bajafun777

when all the construction is finished it will be interesting to see what the permanent routes will be, getting to the ready and sentri lanes is a little awkward. maybe they should have the old regular lanes and make regular crossers use the east lanes?

dasubergeek - 3-27-2014 at 10:49 AM

They can't do that, because the additional lanes they're adding (the old Puerta México southbound entry) are to the west of the existing lanes.

So, what would be the new directions to get into the Sentri if you drive through the CFE turning at the Stop sign going North to Border like you use to? Get into what use to be the Ready Lane that goes up over the bridge? This would be coming into Tijuana on the Free Road out of Rosarito. The new directions to Sentri would be ????? I think they have you going the padre kino route to the sentri. hey do you still get lobsters from the same place at the end of the 3? i've looked and looked but can't find the place.:?:

Thanks for the information and I know others will have even more detailed directions that they will also contribute. The place we get whole lobsters are at Grupo Maritimo Calle 10 #360 El Sauzal Ensenada telephone is (646)175-9466 or 174-7626 we usually ask for Javier. This is the turn off going to Guadalupe Valley as you are coming into Ensenada. The turn off takes you up over the overpass but as you get off this exit you will stay to your right and go towards the ocean, as you do not go over the overpass. It is about a block and a half up as you go in that direction the building will be on your right. It has a big sign you can't miss it. I know there are other places people go but we have found this one to be very reasonable and seems to always have some to sell. October is the best time as it is the season towards the end of September so you have good choices the 1st part of October it seems.
