Whale love - San Ignacio

elgatoloco - 3-25-2014 at 06:53 PM

Second straight day for wife and I and seven whale watch virgins. Yesterday the whales were shy. Just out of reach. Today was unbelievable. We were mobbed. Spent 90+ minutes floating along never a moment without whales. We were approached by 5 different pairs. We had fun naming them. At one point for 20+ minutes we had two pairs with calfs and mothers taking turns on each side. Witnessed calf repeatedly bringing up mouthful of sand, spyhopping, breaching and coming in for rubs on the chin. Census is 80+ mother/calf pairs & 17 'singles'. Things were very mellow. Our firends and family were blown away. Us too. This was our 7th time we have been out to commune with whales. Some of the calves were as a big as we had ever seen. They look ready for a looong trip north. if you have never been you need to. If you have you know the feeling. Went to Tootsies for c-cktail heading back for dinner.

We will keep eye out. Heading for Bahia de Los Angeles tomorrow. Staying in Catavina Thursday night. Climb some rocks in AM then we will head north. Having a blast. Fun to see the newbies in THE BAJA. :saint::lol:

So glad you got some whale love on! I just pulled in from 2 days with bajaguy's family at Ojo de Liebre where we too got some lovin in and thankfully a wonderful goodbye kiss from "Happy" my favorite calf...who is also soooo big now.

There were still many pairs in the inner lagoon to enjoy...the latest count was near 200.
