but...in a world of no service
they work
no streaming music or downloading movies
only email and surfing the web
its very important you get commissioned on a SAT that works in Baja
some of the northern SATs don't have coverage in the south

Yes, that's the info I'm after - plans that will work down in Baja Sur . I've price Hughsnet Wildblue Bluesky and Dish - all about 59/ month w/ 24

For laughs I chased down a satellite provider that would guarantee 115MB all the way to Panama. Five meter (16') dish and 12,200 dollars a month
CONTRACT. Does not include shipping, or setup of the dish or electronics. Draws 115 watts.
Howz about a geosynchronous nuclear powered satellite with say 10 sq km of antennas 2 mw transmitting power and super computers operating at near zero
kelvin temperatures? I know, fusion bombs and invisible aircraft carriers are more fun but I am tired of subsidizing Lawrence Livermore and Newport

the new Hughesnet, which is Gen 4 does not receive south of the border, so you need an older modem like a 7000S and you try to get set up on Sat Mex
5. If you are in a town that has digital dial up, then you should be able to get hooked up to prodigy. It is very fast in the morning when kids are
in school, but by 2 or so in the afternoon, it is even slower than my old Hughes net. Pueblos that still have analog dialing can not connect to

I have a 7000S system in my garage in Colorado that I would love to get rid of....
But, the contract was up several years ago and upon asking to get it back up and running I was told "NOT GONNA HAPPEN"
If I want hughsnet then I would have to sign up for the new Gen4 plan.. and of course it wiill not work in BCS.....
I didn't like them when I had them anyway,,,, gotta be careful with their FAP "fair access policy" if you use more than your allowed in a day then
you don't get to use anything for the next 24 or so hours...

almost no problems.....

Hey Malcom, I still use hughesnet at Psc. I am on satmex8 witch replaced satmex5. It works good at PSC for what it is, I'm not sure about BCS. Like
they said it has to be an older HN7000s system,as the new gen4 will not work.

I have the older HN7000S HughesNet system and have had it for 4 or 5 years.
I bought the 2 systems I have used on Craig's List in northern Ca. for about 100 each. Paid a guy $35 to set me up a non contract account, brought
them down here.
I have 1 active HN7000S modem and 1 for a spare. I have 1 dish at the place in Lopez Mateos and 1 dish at the place in San Nicolas.
I take the modem back and forth with me and it works great in either place.

Well, you "can" download with 10+10 GB limit and 10 Mbps speed, even within 10 GB "daytime allowance". But not much. One or two full-length movies a
week, they are usually severely compressed with file size under 0.7 GB and take 5-20 minutes depending on the server. Those servers with free movies
and music are slow. If you wake up at 6 am, and many people do, you can also use "bonus minutes" until 8 am, those don't count towards 10Gb daytime
quota.
