NB Tecate crossing on weekends?

In general, how is it to cross at Tecate on Saturday or Sunday? I've been crossing during the week so curious about weekends.

Are there times to absolutely avoid? Good times with fewer people?

Sundays, especially, can be bad. I won't even guess at "best times."

I usually cross on Sunday morning after a Baja race between 9 and 10 and it is usually pretty fast, 20-25 minutes or less. If you wait till after noon it gets pretty long. I've never crossed on a Sat north bound so I don't know what it's like. A couple of weeks ago we crossed on a Monday at 11:10 am and both lines were backed up to the top of the hill and it only took 35 minutes to cross. So a lot will depend on how fast the border agents want to work.

In the afternoon it can be 1-2 hours, backed up well beyond the top of the hill and around onto the approach road.

I think they quit making that 90 degree turn. Now they just continue on in front of the houses along the fence.
Gawwwdammm........that road has turned those resident's life into a living hell. Their property values must have sunk deeper than the bottom. :no:

I mean the approach road off the free road to TJ... Culiacán. You go east on Hwy 2 / the main drag, make a left on Culiacán, then a left on the border fence road past all the houses.

Yes!. If you plan to cross on s Sunday, do it early.

Camping is totally different too... We look for a peaceful, quiet spot far from others in order to unwind and relax. Even when we camp with friends, we give each other a big buffer of sand on Shell Island.

Mexicans camp as close together as possible, make noise, and over-drive their poor speakers until the battery goes dead or sunrise, whichever comes first! :lol:

It's just a different way of enjoying your Baja time, nothing wrong with either, if that's the way you like it.

Crossed into the USA on Sunday last year and Saturday one week ago this year. Both times it was a one hour wait, but this year the freshly made churros encanelada sold down the line-up by a family made the wait worth. No secondary for the first time in four years.
