Driving from San Diego to La Ventana/Los Barriles

IslandAngler - 3-30-2014 at 07:35 AM

Looking for a convoy driving south to La Paz area. Leaving San Diego just after Easter. Would like to join or start a convoy.

Off we go. Still looking for a convoy or another wing man for trip south from San Diego. Leaving Tuesday, April 22nd early am. Hoping to get to Guerrero Negro on first days drive. I'm just a single driver and his pick-up truck. Could use some back up if necessary. Packing up and getting ready to go. Final destination is either La Ventana or Los Barriles.

Leave very early if you need to get to Guerrero Negro in one day and don't want to drive at night. Hwy. 1 south of Ensenada is not a high speed road, nor should it be.

There is so much to see along the way, it is sad to just be in a hurry to get to the bottom end of the peninsula. Beaches, cactus gardens, prehistoric rock art, palm oasis canyons, old Spanish missions, abandoned mines, are all along the way.

Have a nice vacation!

David he might be like I was. After decades of tooling around Baja I just wanted to get to the tip as fast as I could. I used to leave No. San Diego Co. at 4 am and drive to Mulege at least. Next day the tip.

Roger That; David. I figure 06:00 is a good time to cross. If not earlier, Gray Light. That's what I did last time and made it to San Ignacio buy dinner time. Had Margaritas next door to the mission downtown. I love that little quite town. Slept like a baby with the frogs singing in the back ground. And up the next day and on the road after coffee.

Sounds like you know the road then... I figured it was your first time, asking for the security of a caravan to scare off the banditos and chupacabras!

How long are you going for?

IslandAngler - 4-18-2014 at 10:13 AM

I'm planning on 3 weeks to a month. Should return to San Diego on, or around May 20th.

Perhaps you should look up osprey. He can direct you to that good snorkeling beach just south of Pulmo. It's like an aquarium there.

A month? You should have good memories.

Safe travels and have fun!

Would love to join you, but I did the San Diego-GN drive, solo in my truck, just a few weeks ago, to see whales for a 3rd and final time this season.

Please post report regarding Cabo Pulmo- I want to head there when school lets out in June.

Been working as a Captain on a Whale Watching boat for 3 months now. Need to see an acre of of frothing hungry fish. Preferably Big Tuna.

Rules of the road?

Hey there I was planning on heading to La Ventana possibly February or March of next year. I have a van that I am fixing up with no windows along the side and windows in the back with tint. I heard there was some rule in TJ about tinted windows. Would I have a problem getting through?

Drivers (front seat) side windows... same law as California that some ignore. Keep your window rolled down if it is illegally tinted. Cops need to see if you are pointing a 45 at them!

Welcome josesbox! No one will even look at your windows in TJ.
