Road to Gonzaga

Cliffy - 4-22-2014 at 11:54 AM

Just to clarify my own mind, is there any indication that the road work will continue beyond Gonzaga atthe same pace (to CoCo's and beyond) or are they planing on stopping where they are at for the time being?

They are actively building south from Gonzaga. Nomads have said pavement ends 2 miles south of the Pemex and they are working on a big bridge over Arroyo Santa Marķa. Just yesterday these photos were posted showing the pavement south of Gonzaga: http://forums.bajanomad.com/viewthread.php?tid=73334

Thanks I did see those pictures today. Like I said i was just wondering if the government plan was to continue on a daily basis as they have been doing and go all the way to Mex 1 or if the plan was to delay at Gonzaga for some government reason? Money availability etc.
Just prognosticating about my ability to drag a trailer down through CoCo's to Mex 1 next year? Even if they grade the rough spots it might be doable but they probably don't grade too far ahead of where they are working.

A couple weeks ago we were at Alfonsinas and some big shots from the government and construction companies were having a meeting about the road. They had huge maps showing pavement all the way to hwy1 with milestones and dates. Couldn't get close enough to see the completion date.

I can't imagine they could be finished all the way to Mex 1 by next year. Was there last week and as mentioned, the pace has picked up. Maybe not as many large washes to cross so that might quicken it...

The highway construction south from Puertecitos has been averaging 10 kms.(6 miles) a year!

It is 35 miles from Gonzaga (Pemex) to Highway 1 (Chapala)...

They have 2 miles done so far...

At the rate they have been going since 2007, expect the highway to be done in 2019 to 2020. Unless they ramp up the work, that is.

I'm wondering what the odds are of being caught with dynamite. Seems like a good cause.

Can't stop progress. Still thousands of miles of dirt left to explore.

Did you all know that Gonzaga was the name of a founding family of Baja?
