La Paz questions

Where is a recycling center? I am separating out plastic, which in La Bocana we take to santa rosalia where they have recycling baskets everywhere.

What groups get together here? Book club? Walking club? Movie club?

Has anyone ever worked with any of the orphanages? I heard there were two.....one for abused little ones and another for all ages?

Thanks in advance for any input and I am sure I'll have more

There is a community recycling center on Nayarit near the water on the right, you see the recycling and a brightly colored painted wall.

Each neighborhood /city usually has recycling in a large walled in container along main roads.

The Marina La Paz has a community hang out center called Club Cruceros where people meet every morning for coffee, usually between 8-10am, also they have the "Net" which is a VHF radio network on VHF channel 22 at 8am and unofficial"net" earlier which is very informative. You can access the VHF "net" from the Club Cruceros. You can also have breakfast at the Dock restaurant. Club Cruceros members host a book exchange and movie exchange.

Nearby, a few doors down at there is a backgammon game going on often at the restaurant on the beach, ask at Club Cruceros.

Also on the public fishing beach nearby is a fishing community, and there at the basketball court is a weekly market for fresh veggies and other interesting items.

In el centro near the Plaza is a weekly sales event for organic veggies and arts and crafts. Check around for dates (it may not run during hot days of Summer).

Walking groups head to the malecon at Sunrise and Sunset. There is a kayak group/class, Stand-up paddle group/class, star watching, bird watching and Photography class. I'll add more contact detail as I can find it.

Wow.......muchissimas gracias and we did indeed see lots of folks walking on the malecon this am. It was actually cold all night and easily cool until 10 am......and now it is in the 90's and really muggy.

I will try the breakfast and I bet that book exchange is where I dropped off 30 + new books and heard a WOW by the first person who walked in.

Siesta time. Loving it here so far.

The La Paz Gringos Yahoo email group has its drawbacks, but is a decent reference for info and happenings.

Blanca, there is a book club in La Paz that meets once a month. You can get info about it at the Allende Book Store and there are also fairly frequent articles about it in the BajaCitizen. You can look up the last couple of issues online - I seem to recall an article in one of the last 2 or 3 issues with list of books and contact info.

I think you can subscribe to the list by emailing 'subscribe' to lapazgringos@yahoogroups.com but beware, you will get every email that gets sent through the group individually, which is 10-20 emails a day, so you might want to subscribe with a secondary email account. If you manage to create a yahoo profile and join the group you can change the settings so that you only get one 'digest' a day with all the emails batched together.

If you want to register and receive the daily e-mails, you can register to receive only the daily digest. That way you see the headers, and YOU chose which post you would like further details.

you need a yahoo email account for yahoo groups like la paz

there are many dog groups but you should check in at club cruceros for a local association.

San Pedro is "El Centro Municipal de Atención Canina" (Municipal Canine Care Center) is a humane society (dont say human society) more like dog clinic CEMAC teléfonos 12-80185 y 12-80434 offers free dog health care. recent article here http://colectivopericu.net/2013/10/30/atencion-gratuita-a-ma... no money donations only food

Down the street on Nayarit or Sinaloa at the water is a community association where there are opportunities to join groups, learn and help teach. It's right at the old cemex tower. Go there and see if you can ask around and learn and become involved in something you want to be involved with. There is a kids sailing club, organic gardens, graffiti removal, classes on self help, recycling, If you need help connecting ask.

I found the recycling center and dropped off my plastic. there was no one there but I see that there is activity.

thanks so much for that lead - they take cardboard and plastic and metal but for now are not accepting glass.

Now to hunt for perros (((:
