Any beaches on the way to San Felipe?

Check out Google Earth sat and map images.....beaches would be a long way east from highway until just north of the city of San Felipe.

Ummm... there's like 20 miles of beach access off Hwy. 5 north of San Felipe... It's all developed (mostly). Pete's Camp (El Paraiso) is one of the most popular with Americans, it seems.

The newer AAA map stopped showing the campos north of town as there are so many. Here is a fun look at the 1974 Baja map from the Auto Club north and south of San Felipe. The new road (eventually paved) follows the coast past Punta Estrella, instead of using the old road route via the sulfur mine. In 1974 we camped at Nuevo Mazatlan, about 23 miles south of San Felipe...

Lots of nice beaches south of San Felipe... About 25 miles south the beach goes from all sand to sand with rocks at low tide then about 35 miles south it becomes more gravel and rocks with some sand sections. The town of Puertecitos is about 51 miles south of San Felipe. Pavement now goes to Gonzaga Bay, 45 miles after Puertecitos.

Driving towards San Felipe offers no real beaches. In San Felipe itself has great beaches.....during high tides. The low tide is drastic. Picture I just posted below is from our beach that is near Campos Ocotillo (near the first Edido north of town).

For a great beach with a cold shower...bano...very primitive: Playa Pescado. It is right before the first mountain north of the town. A few bucks to get in.

David K's Shell Island is more like a beach in S. Ca. Lots of sand. A good choice too.

The best beaches are down by K33 (about a half an hour past San Felipe). This is where you should go for pristine beaches that hold turquoise waters and silky sand. Small town right there too for food and drink.

Actually, (in my opinion) it is NOTHING like a beach in Southern California: No people, no trash, no lifegaurds, no rules.. just right! The beach is also steep not flat like a Pacific side beach. The sand is more coarse, mixed with crushed shells (why driving on it requires deflating tires, not just four wheel drive).

The tide is also one of the extreme examples of tide change in the world... around 20 vertical feet change twice a day during full and new moon phases. The ocean goes out about half a mile at low tide.
