Trip photo's - Gonzaga to BoLA

JZ - 4-26-2014 at 10:59 PM

Just got back to LA from a 10 day trip to Baja with my two boys (10 and 12) and a couple friends from Sonorora. We crossed at Mexicali and spent a couple days in Gonzaga. Got the truck stuck in the deep sand and had to have the tractor from Rancho Grande pull us out.

We rode our bikes down to the Mex 1, stopping at CoCo's (towed a disabled vechile into CoCo's). Put the bikes on the truck and headed down to Bahia de Los Angeles.

Did a couple good rides out of BoLA to La Gringa and Rincon. Rode to the top of La Gringa through a boulder field (that was tough after a couple Pacificos).

We rode our Zodiac out to and around all the islands. Did a little swimming in the very chilly water. Let off a bunch of fireworks we bought in San Felipe.

Headed up to the border and spent a night in Ensenada. Fun trip.

I don't know who has the most fun on those trips, the boys or the dad. There certainly aren't any losers. Great job! Thanks for sharing. I'm very envious.

The boys will always remember this trip. Great stuff, thanks

That beach that the "SS MINNOW" is wrecked on is the most beautiful swimming beach that I have ever visited in all of Baja. Pure white granitic (clean) sand, and always calm waters. We always boat over to it on every visit to the BOLA.

Lots of interesting stuff to see up in the rocks there, too.

Great pictures.

Beach Bob once told me that years back some Sea Hagg had used the SS Minnow as a house of ill repute.

Now that's what a hamburger's all about. Those boys will never forget.

A side note: Those panties are a little scary. I think I'm gonna have nightmares about them.:lol:

I heard the same story years ago, but not from Beach Bob. Added to the story was that many of the local fishermen would go over there until a man of a darker color skin paid her a little visit. After the locals found out, they no longer paid her any visits which put her out of business.

Great photos! Looks like everyone had a great time. Where is that photo of the marina with all the boats?

Meany - 8-12-2014 at 02:54 PM

Lots of memories there. What a great trip.

Great report!
What happened to the boy ruining from the Zodiac in, what looks like, pain?

Thank you BajaNomad for fixing the photos to fit on the page! Great pics... in great places. Don Juan Cove is really neat (SS Minnow location)!

The comment on the location of the SS Minnow may cause some confusion for new visitors. Here is the location of Don Juan Cove and the beach where the Minnow is.

watch for stingrays at DJC unless pain is your game!

Bob53 - 8-14-2014 at 10:01 AM

My friend got nailed by one in DJC a few years ago... right after I told him to watch out for stingrays.

Thanks for the correction Jim, I remember seeing it well inside the cove...? Must have had sun stroke that day! ???

Is there another wreck on the beach in Don Juan?

rts551 - 8-15-2014 at 07:43 AM

Looks like a great time and a good experience for the kids. You forgot to ask how to air down!

Good, then I didn't have sun stroke... or a Bedman margarita!
