New Baja Norte Road?

Juan del Rio - 12-9-2004 at 04:44 PM

Flying from Ensenada back to San Diego a couple of weeks ago, I noticed a huge new road(?) that was being built. It seemed to come from way east of Tijuana and appeared to end around the Catamar area. Any idea on the project?

Juan del Rio - 12-9-2004 at 04:49 PM

Here's another angle that is more towards the Catamar area.

Tecate to Fox Studios

jrbaja - 12-9-2004 at 04:50 PM

designed as a new route to keep the trucks out of TJ and Rosarito. Good idea.
What it will also do is open up a quick way for people from Mexicali and Tecate to get to the beach. Oughtta be interesting during the summers!

Juan del Rio - 12-9-2004 at 04:53 PM

Thanks JR. It's a huge project!

De Nada Juan

jrbaja - 12-9-2004 at 05:02 PM

If FOX Studios get their way, you will also be seeing an airport up there so the "Stars" can fly in.

Juan del Rio - 12-9-2004 at 05:04 PM

Then this new developement above the Puerto Nuevo area will really take off!!!

You probably saw

jrbaja - 12-9-2004 at 05:20 PM

that those developments are going in everywhere between Real del Mar and Salsipuedes in the hills.
Most of those lots are already sold. Originally they were going for around $16,000 and $18,000. They were selling so what they seem to have done is cut the lots in half and raise the prices. Twice as many lot's for mucho mas dinero.
The problem with most of those developments is that they don't have underground utilities so your view is of power, phone and cable lines before you see the ocean.
And, until the streets get paved, those areas are slicker n snake snot when it rains.

Dave - 12-9-2004 at 05:44 PM

Hey, neat! Right in the center of that shot is my deli. Bordering the east of the vacant ocean lot. Puerto Nuevo is to the left and the Grand Baja Resort hotel is to the right.

Juan, got any more of the immediate surrounding area?

Juan del Rio - 12-9-2004 at 06:00 PM

I had a total of four from the area.

Juan del Rio - 12-9-2004 at 06:02 PM

This is a little north of that area:

Juan del Rio - 12-9-2004 at 06:05 PM

...and this is above (I think) what they use to call "Raul's" at an exit off the toll road before we started to head east and picked up the new road under construction. I could not believe how much developement is taking place at such a fast pace!

Unfortunately my friend

jrbaja - 12-9-2004 at 07:20 PM

we had best be getting used to it. My first trip to Peque?a was about 15 years ago. There weren't any white folks besides 1 camper. Alan Bray was his name and he was pretty well known out there. And he wasn't even a surfer.
Ever heard anything about him ? Seemed like a good dude!

Thank you Fernando!

Here is the small map from that page... Seems like they are serious about improving the flow of commerce, agriculture, and people between the east side of Tijuana (Otay Border and south), Tecate, Mexicali AND Rosarito and points south. Agriculture from San Quintin and Camalu is mentioned, as well as Vizcaino and La Paz. Perhaps this weill take a load off Hwy. 3 (Tecate to Ensenada), and give a multi lane road from Ensenada to Mexicali as an option to Hwy. 3.

After following the trucks to Tijuana

jrbaja - 12-9-2004 at 08:48 PM

twice today and for the last few days dealing with my truck, I think it's going to be a blessing. That free road can be nasty!

Other side of the coin:

bajaandy - 12-10-2004 at 08:45 AM

Is this new route intended for trucking traffic only, or will it be open to all vehicles? Seems to me it might make for a faster trip getting south and/or north, if crossing at Otay is your destination.

Mexitron - 12-10-2004 at 09:18 AM

Wish there were plans to build a road bypassing the Camalu to San Quintin areas--gets worse every year to drive through there.....anybody hear of anything in this regard?

The new road

jrbaja - 12-10-2004 at 09:41 AM

is for all vehicles. I heard rumors of a toll but I don't think that's happening.
As far as Camalu and San Quintin goes, the new road going south of Rosarito (the free road) is so popular already that I think it won't be long before other towns start doing the same thing.
With development and agriculture growing the way it is, I have a feeling that the current ribbon (Highway 1) going down the peninsula will be obsolete soon.
Too many cars, trucks, and traffic for it to hold up under the increasing use.
I hope I am mistaken on this but from what I actually see happening here, I doubt it.
If I were any of you rich guys, I would put in a starbucks and taco bell right around the turn off to Rosalillita :light: You know, right next to the new outlet mall:no:

bajaandy - 12-10-2004 at 11:28 AM

jr,
By the term "all you rich guys", I assume you are refering to our 'cultural richness and diversity' for being such enthusiasts for Baja.
('cuz I for one sure can't afford no stinkin' starbucks franchise! Besides, there's already enough of the damn things everywhere else!)

Cultural richness and diversity

jrbaja - 12-10-2004 at 12:19 PM

is in general a really good thing as long as you have an open mind. It perhaps has something to do with education, appreciating the earth and environment, and protecting certain areas that are unique.( Yellowstone, Grand Canyon, etc.)
Unfortunately, the diversity part also includes those who feel that money and making more of it is more important than anything. (Starbucks, Developers, the corporate world in general.)
These guys don't give a rats arse about changing an environment. I watched it in Southern California and I'm watching it here in Baja.
And personally, I feel Baja has a lot more to offer than either one of those overpacked nightmares they call national parks.
10 years, Starbucks stops along the peninsula. We already have Cha Bucks by our house here:lol: Not really, it's Cha Chas cafe but same idea and we call it that. Really good meatball sandwiches too!
I am planning guided trips at the end of this month, Jan. Feb. Mar. and April to places that have yet to be affected by these changes.
One might encounter some "cultural richness and diversity" on these trips!

fdt - 12-10-2004 at 08:29 PM

Well, I see you realy don't know alot of what is going on here in Baja California, at least the northern part, there is no toll for the corredor 2000, it is not Tecate Rosarito and there is a very big operation with respect to coffee, here is there link.

That's why it's great that you are providing us with these links and insider info... GRACIAS FERNA!

When I say, I heard a rumour of a toll

jrbaja - 12-11-2004 at 01:12 AM

and readily admit that, for someone to say that I believe in it or even say it is true seems like a very shallow minded individual.
Obviously, you living in TJ and DK being your friend, anything else said about Baja and the scuttlebutt would be ridiculous, right?
I readily admit, I know nothing of politics here. But to claim that you or your chicken coup group does, makes me want to puke since I couldn't find the emoticon for it.
You are awesome !! Read what I actually said, if you can, before acting like a typical coop grouper pendejo!:moon:

Oh sorry, I may have meant pendeja pero no se! I bet you have some sort of book out right?

jr: fdt (Flowers) is near & dear to many of us who read this board. Please treat him with respect.

Mexitron - 12-11-2004 at 09:42 AM

If development is inevitable, why don't we form a consortium and buy large tracts of land and develop, low density, maybe 5% of the acreage....enough to make the money back and buy more land, yet retaining 95% of the land under stewardship(maybe even have 2% in bamboo forest!). 5% of the land is still too much but if development is coming at least it would make it less disastrous, unless enough money was found to but the land outright, which isn't likely(?). Of course this would have to be done soon, while land is still relatively cheap.

One of the main reasons for the Bamboo is

jrbaja - 12-11-2004 at 09:48 AM

to give them an alternate means of making money without having to sell their land:light:

bajalou - 12-11-2004 at 10:34 AM

There are millions of peopleall around the world that have been making very good living off the land hat haven't been able to resist the one time riches of the developers.

Obviously, you living in TJ and DK being your friend, anything else said about Baja and the scuttleb

Yes, he is my friend, from a long time. But why would you call me pendejo?

Two reasons

jrbaja - 12-11-2004 at 12:56 PM

number one, I hate it when people turn my words into something I did not say and number two, I was already mad.

I apologize for the name calling and am trying to not do that. Perhaps I need some sort of anger management or pills or something so that I don't get mad at all!

Perdon Se?or.

woody with a view - 12-11-2004 at 06:58 PM

or even a 7-11 franchise in that neck of the woods would have a corner on the market. especially with all the rich gringos trailering between BoLA and Rosalillita:lol:

woody with a view - 12-11-2004 at 07:01 PM

OOPS.

didn't realize there was two pages to this thread and it looks like i posted right in the middle of a nasty little :fire:

Might I suggest...

FrankO - 12-11-2004 at 07:30 PM

that maybe a big fat splif would calm you down! No, that would be illegal.;) How about masturbating? That definitely would take the edge off!

New roads in Baja Norte? When did this happen, was I sleeping again.

elgatoloco - 12-17-2004 at 11:57 PM

Wow! I just killed some time clicking around the website posted by Se?or fdt and this is going to be a nice road. The port of Ensenada will have lots of container ships to unload and the trucks will be able to get to Otay efficiently. The road is three lanes in each direction with a bridge that spans a portion of the big reservoir. Lots of photos showing the various stages of work and the numerous puentes. There is also a 13 minute video presentation on the website with some old movies and photos showing the TJ/Roso area of old.

Gypsy Jan - 12-18-2004 at 11:13 PM

With respect to JR (BTW, have you taken a chill pill yet? )

This thread and the link to the Mexican government website seems to be all about a highway from Otay Mesa to Rosarito (Poptola).

I've looked around it, where in it is stuff/links about a road from Mexicali to Rosarito and Ensenada?

Is there another project?:lol::lol::lol:
