Alfonzina's Closed to Public Access?

SoCalAl - 5-1-2014 at 03:07 PM

Hello All,
It has been a few years but I am back.. The World can only keep you long from the beauty of BAJA.. Juan Ornelas and I went to Alfonsina's this past weekend as an excuse to try out the new road (highway) and were disappointed to find out we could not enter at 8PM. there was a security guard posted and we had no choice but to return to San Felipe. :?: Visited Punta Bufeo which was nice but extremely windy. What is happening here... Is this what is going to happen to all these awesome places we used to visit now that the road is here?:?::?::?::no:

ehall - 5-1-2014 at 03:09 PM

Would the guard at the gate not let you in?

motoged - 5-1-2014 at 03:11 PM

Did the guard not allow entry for Alphonsina's? I was there in the day time in February and was allowed in with a friendly wave when I explained I was going to the hotel....maybe something is different after dark???

woody with a view - 5-1-2014 at 03:18 PM

the guard will radio ahead informing them you are coming in.

chuckie - 5-1-2014 at 03:18 PM

I got there just before dark in April, and was told there were no rooms, he was reluctant to let me in but did....

ehall - 5-1-2014 at 03:21 PM

We told the guard we wanted breakfast and we had no problem getting in.

willardguy - 5-1-2014 at 03:38 PM

you gotta know the secret handshake

JZ - 5-1-2014 at 06:48 PM

The restaurant closes at 8pm sharp. If you don't have a reservation there's nothing else for you to do there?

Bwana_John - 5-1-2014 at 08:39 PM

Papa Fernandez also has a new "puerta" that they lock at night, and reopen in the morning.

Must have paved the road....

neilm81301 - 5-1-2014 at 09:02 PM

.. ya think that's it? Bad road/good people.... good road??

You girly-men wanted a paved road... well, you got what it brings!

Alfonsina's (no ph in Spanish for the f sound) is a private home area, plus a motel and restaurant. Obviously if the restaurant is open and the motel has vacancy the guard will let you in.

So sad and un-Baja-like... Once a 'land of hardly any fences'!

Good roads bring ALL kinds of people!

The correct spelling is "girlie men". There is no "Y" for macho posturing. Well...hmmm...better let that one go...

:o:o:o

chuckie - 5-2-2014 at 04:42 AM

I would...

Mula - 5-2-2014 at 04:56 AM

That Cabo Pulmo area is all fenced off and all the keep out and no trespassing signs make it feel very forbidding to drive around there. And that was 2 or 3 years ago. . . . Very few places to access the beach.

chuckie - 5-2-2014 at 05:16 AM

I found it difficult to even find a place to run my dog on the road North from San Felipe. When I went through a gate into an empty area, I was visited almost immediately by some private security guys. Very polite but watched from a distance until I left....

meme - 5-2-2014 at 08:08 AM

Have friends from here in SF that stayed at Alfonsinas & camped & fised for 3 days there. So no problems getting in. Maybe it was because it was at 8:00 p.m.?

SoCalAl - 5-2-2014 at 09:36 AM

I thought about a bit more and realized that the privatizing of all this land is probably good for the economy but for the "Baja Explorer", it is a pay as you or forget about it. I miss the days when you could drive up to where ever you wanted and just enjoyed the pristine beauty without a worry as to anyone kicking you out or stretching out their hand for a fee. Baja, though is still beautiful, just have to make different arrangements or straight out buy your own little piece of it.

mcfez - 5-2-2014 at 10:41 AM

The Baja is what.....1100 miles long? A fence here and there....gate there and here? Plenty of open un-intrusive land. On the Sea of Cortez side.....I can access 99.9% of the area. I love that new paved road......so you all can address me as Girlie McFez :smug:

We rode out to Rincon around BoLA on a day ride last week. They have a guard gate at the entry. He asked what we were doing and we said we just wanted to go to the beach. He let us in but said we had to be out by 4pm when he was leaving and asked us not to go near the houses. Sounds good we said.

We road two bikes slowly through the neighborhood and made it down to an opening on the beach. A truck with us pulled in about 10mins later.

My son rode on the beach for about 3mins right by the truck.

Some gringa woman from a nearby house came out and just stared at us. A piercing stare. I sat in the bed of the truck drinking a beer and waved at her. No expression change, no movement. A blank mean stare for 10mins straight. Finally she and another woman came over. The 2nd woman explained that they had just raised and graded the road into Rincon and asked us kindly to not tear it up with our bikes, which I agreed to.

The 1st one tersely asked us 30 questions about who we were, why were there, who we knew, where we were from, did we live in the Bahia, on and on. I mostly just said we'll be leaving soon and ignored her. Wow, she was something else. The Mexicans I was with were pretty furious. I'd still like to kick her in the ass for being a burro.

ah yes, the mellow laid back spirit of baja at its finest:no:

DavidE - 5-2-2014 at 12:08 PM

Yeah, and people wonder why I demand to live far FAR away from gringos...

so he asked you to not do something, and you did it. did you post here expecting a reward for your asssholle behavior?

JZ - 5-2-2014 at 01:02 PM

I waved. I was friendly. The 2nd lady had a concern and I acknowledge it and was polite and said we'd try to ride off the road when leaving.

But yeah, I wasn't going to be belittled by the 1st lady. So I just mostly kept my mouth shut and assured her we'd be leaving soon. What the hell else did you want me to do? Trust me I bit my tongue as did everyone there.

Whale-ista - 5-2-2014 at 01:03 PM

Hold on- it sounds like they stayed on the beach, near the truck, as the guard instructed.

Beaches in MX are public property, open to all, so if they stayed on the shoreline they were breaking no law.

Sound carries, so perhaps the women heard them from a distance and came over closer to them, to investigate.

Your esposa bro??

Near vs. nearby. You enter the neighborhood and you are "nearby" any house. We were way away from the house.

I couldn't have thrown a rock half the distance.

Trust me bud, you'd never want to meet this woman.

It still is that way, as of 3 months ago. There are 2 open areas (very tiny ones) just before Cabo Pulmo. If you drive by too fast, you'll miss them.

I stayed at Alfonsinas last night. We arrived about 8:30 pm and drove up to the security gate. I talked to the guard and asked if they had any rooms available. He radioed the hotel and they had rooms. We drove in and the restaurant was closed and dark. I asked about possibly eating and they opened the restaurant for us and whipped up some beef burritos for us! First class service all the way!

Cliffy - 5-3-2014 at 12:16 AM

went to rincon last week. told the guard we just wanted to look around he smiled we smiled he waved us by. drove to the end and on the way back out met a couple sitting by their garage got out introduced ourselves and let them know we meant no harm they invited us to sit down and we had a very nice 1/2 hr talk.
Bikes and beaches are like house boats and jet skis where we come from sometimes the twaine don't meet both valid uses but one generally bothers the other.
also sounds like good road bad road fits in here.

Marc - 5-3-2014 at 08:23 AM

They are not such nice people now that the road is in?

StuckSucks - 6-8-2015 at 01:38 PM

Here's what I was given by security to have lunch there on Friday.

ehall - 6-8-2015 at 03:43 PM

We were given one of those for each truck when we stayed there for 4 days last month. Was useful for quick trips to the liquor and ice store.

David K - 6-8-2015 at 04:40 PM

Look, they even spelled their place correctly!!! LOL:light:

mtgoat666 - 6-8-2015 at 04:56 PM

Correct spelling but grammar wrong. Spanish typically does not use 's for possessive.

Maybe she just copied what her competition did, across the bay?

It's been that way for over 45 years... Here is a 1970 map:

dizzyspots - 6-9-2015 at 06:41 AM

increased security after a rash of thefts...maybe via the road..maybe via the sea...residents are peeed..the residents are paying extra for the security...

Cappy - 6-9-2015 at 06:44 AM

Any photos? Is this on the 'hidden' beach over the hill, beyond Snoopy?
