We went out and set shrimp pots on Friday and went out today and pulled them.

Ended up with about 10lbs. of nice spot prawn tails. Delicious!

Ama ebi or sweet shrimp are the best as sashimi! I just saw them sold live in SD for $26/lb;D

How much do the prawns sell for in Alaska? The bait alone is $2.27 per pound:
SHRIMP BAIT
Super Bait shrimp pellets in 22lb buckets
$50.00
(from link above)

Cleaned out the freezer for bait, but probably used $150 worth of fuel to get to where we set the pots.

Price of shrimp has continually increased NOB. If anyone has seen Red Lobster commercials on TV, up until recently, they really never advertised lobster. But with the increase in the price of shrimp, all of a sudden, lobster is their game.

tripledigitken - 5-17-2014 at 04:18 PM

The reason for them marketing lobster is because for the last couple of years the price of lobster wholesale in Maine has been below $3 per lb.

OK. But my point that for many years, they did not ever advertise lobster. It was always shrimp.

Fact is that the Darden Group has been running dying restaurants for many years. Look at Olive Garden.
