Hi Guys! My wife and I are a bit torn on where to stay for our upcoming trip next month. We'll be flying into SJD and that's all we have figured out
so far. We're looking to rent a casita on the beach where I can enjoy some fishing, but we'd also like to be close to a few good bars/ restaurants
(without the Cabo techno Botox scene). I'm thinking Los Barriles? We love the Cabo Pulmo/ Los Frailes area, but are thinking it may be a bit too
secluded for us this time around. Kinda looking for the best of both worlds...
Any suggestions?
Thanks!

Los Barriles is wonderful, have an ATV available, that is how everyone gets around. Plenty of choices for restaurants and bars. Plenty of fishing.
Beautiful.
I a sure someone will pop up here who knows of a rental on the beach.....have a blast!

No particular suggestion but it may be helpful to know how your walking ability is, what kind of a c-cktails scene you're interested in, and maybe
even your budget. Do you care for authentic Mexican food or shy away from spicy dishes? Fish from shore or hire a boat? What kind of fish....to
eat...or take images of?

Tons of choices on VRBO

We've rented Casa Gabriella 3 or 4 times now. Beachfront between Spa and Rancho Leonero. Property managers live next door and also have a separate
apartment in their house they rent. Far enough outside town for real peace and quiet but close enough in for a quick 10 minute drive for dinner. Rod
(property manager) also does fishing charters.
If you want to stay in town it's tough to beat Palmas de Cortez for a hotel

Hi Dave. Walking ability is not an issue. We also plan on renting a car from Antonio at Cactus. As for the c-cktails scene; nothing too crazy at all.
I'd love to be able to fish from the beach, but also had in mind to hire a captain for one of our days there. Fish I could take home and prepare
myself. We're thinking around $150 a night.

Thanks Andy!

Los Barriles now has big welcome sign on a strip mall on the highway.
It reads LAP S*X.
Impressed me.
Quaint little town in the south of Baja. My Burro!

Hi MaxStar!
Hotel Pescadores in Los Barriles, Patti is the owner. pattimorr@gmail.com
Very nice 10 room hotel about $75-85 per night. Real nice bar, dinner served except on Sundays at extra cost. She also has 2 nice panga's with good
captains. Short walk to beach fishing, and she can arrange quad rentals.
Rancho Leonero on the water, above your desired budget but lots of fun. Meals are included here. rancholeonero.com
I recently stayed and fished with both, very nice time!

Martin Verdugos Beach resort in Los Barriles would cover all your needs. Fish from the beach right out front or rent a boat for the day. Ocean front
rooms for $85, standard $80 or kitchenette $90. Right in town and walk to everything. Google it...
gnukid - 5-14-2014 at 07:12 AM
Verdugos is excellent if you want mediocre food, noisy, low quality accommodations, unpleasant staff, depressed seniors arguing about the sunrise and
weather and revving quads at 5am outside your door and la freeway for a beach, but it is the center of the action!

Has SJdC become -that- unpleasant to warrant being snubbed?
Oldtimer's Memory. A small town with pleasant affordable accomdations and good food. What is it like now? Unpleasant?

Rancho Leonero is pretty special I think. Great meals, bar - inside and outside; pool; good snorkling right out front; you can sign up for a Cabo
Pulmo snorkling day; or horseback riding; fish from shore for roosterfish. They have chips and salsa at mid-day too. And the other guests are
usually fun to be around. And you can rent a panga if you don't want one of the larger boats; and they'll buddy you up with someone if there's
another someone who wants company and split the cost.

If you can live with a 2-5 minute Car ride to the beach .... I'd suggest La Ribera .
Couple of different places to stay there -

http://www.tripadvisor.com/VacationRentalReview-g1544261-d36...
Both of these are a hop/skip/jump away from the water . Best of all , La Ribera isn't anywhere nearly as crowded as L.B. !
Have a great trip , wherever you wind up !!

I highly recommend the Agave Hotel, a few rooms and best of all ask for the Casita on the beach, nice pool, quiet, not a lot of people and Rick the
owner is a great guy.

Agave Hotel is 4places up from me. Right now there 5 NORRA cars & chase trucks relaxing after the race !

Thanks again, everyone! as usual this forum has proven to be a great resource. We found a condo on VRBO in Buena Vista, south of town. From what I've
read it's a 20-30 minute walk up the beach to the Palmas de Cortez hotel. Can't wait to huck those Rangers and Krocodiles at sunrise.... YAH!
