Mulege Fire Clean up

Cleaning up after the fire. Mulege, BCS, Mexico
Many volunteers worked the last 2 days picking up the debris. An access road was built along the edge of the estuary so the rubbish could be collected. Hot, dirty work made easier by volunteers bringing food, water and beer. Mulegé En Movimiento AC had about 30 people cutting and moving the sharp edged palms. More pics on my FB.

Looks like there is some newer growth Palms that survived retty well..
It will take a few years but we will enjoy watching it..

That li'l gal in the pink stripes just made my heart sing!! That's Nat'l Geo quality work. Mulege will rebuild, always has, always will. What an amazing town, what amazing and resilient people. Viva la Raza!

Thanks everyone. When we cut into a small tree, it was very moist and appeared to be healthy, so hopefully they will grow fast.
I always ask before I take a pic and that little girl said no. Later, when I was covered in soot, she said "Mama, that gringo is ok, he can take my photo" She is laughing because I was teasing her for calling me a gringo.

Good to see all the volunteers Willy, bet they did a bang up job too,, When was the last time you guys in mulege or loreto had measurable precip??

Clean up will take a few weeks as it can only be done by hand. The area below the bridge is already lookn good.
Last rain was way back in Oct, I think.

From my Mulege Diary

Sunday 13th October. Big raindrops began falling after lunch......Then good soaking rain this evening.
Mon 14th October .......rain continued ....all day

Wednesday December 4 ......it began raining and on Thursday December 5th we had heavy soaking rain

Friday January 24 .....we had light sprinkles of rain throughout the day.

Monday January 27 It was raining at eight with puddles around the garden but sunshine by mid afternoon.

hey richard, i know this is probably not gonna happen but a really nice capper to the whole cleanup would be to have the bomberos come down for a couple of days and pump water out of the lagoon and irrigate the burned area....that's the ONLY water that area is gonna get for many many months, as we all know and it would do WONDERS on kickstarting new growth....just my input....see ya saturday, this. m.

I am very happy to see the locals getting this cleaned up after the fire. I bought a place there in January. I don' t regret it. Looking forward to getting back there next winter. Great people!

The committee that organized to oversee the cleanup has created a Bancomer account to receive financial donations.

The Bancomer account number is 0196087035

Funds are needed to purchase clean-up tools such as gloves boots and masks, long-handled pruning shears and other equipment. Individuals are donating their services and pickups to haul away the debris to the dump, so gasoline for their pickups will be an on-going expense.

There is excellent leadership of this movement by locals committed to the betterment of the community. With the concerted effort of everyone and a huge amount of work much good will come forth from our efforts. Change and awareness for the better is in the works. No doubt Mulege will rise up stronger.

...I have a feeling those smaller new-growth already have their tap-roots in that -very- close watertable;D

...I walked throughout the area a couple of years ago,,,never found the hotsprings that are said to be there,,,but really enjoyed the area,,,and it's huge bounty of fresh water
