I'm thinking about buying a smart TV for my Baja hideaway. Do the major streaming video Internet channels work in Mexico? TIA.

Yes they do, but they take a long time to download because of the slow internet.

I did some reading after I posted the question and Hulu does not work in Mexico, NETFLIX does and so does YouTube, as most of us know. I measured my download speed and according to the NETFLIX website it is fast enough for its streaming service.

The Hulu website said they are working on getting "the OK" to stream internationally.

In Bahia Asuncion Hulu does not work, and NetFlix says I have to have Mexican Netflix. Youtube is good, and is the most dependable download. Vimeo videos are such a slow and inconsistent download that I don't try anymore. Top Documentary films has worked-out pretty well. Often the film is also on Youtube and I click to download it from there. It seems a little faster and doesn't get stuck as often. Waiting for buffering seems to be one of the ways to pass time in Baja.:lol:

My download speed is about half a Meg.

No Hulu here yet. But get Netflix Mexico with no problem. Must have VPN to get Netflix U.S. Streams fine here thru our Wi Max system.

We use Netflix all the time in Bahia Asuncion. We have a US account but get Mexican Netflix while in Mexico...kind of makes sense.

It varies from locale to locale it appears. Last time in Baja I tried several times to access Netflix on my tablet with no success.

We have an AppleTV and netflix works fine. Can also rent movies.
I can also use it to watch ustvnow.com on my TV (for networks).

When I only had the Telcel GSM stick, I couldn't stream Netflix (Mexico) at all. It was way too slow. Now I have Telmex DSL and have no problems. The good thing about Mexico Netflix is that most shows are in English with Spanish subtitles, so it's a great way to brush up on your Spanish skills. I'm in La Paz.

All of those services stream fine in La Paz with Telmex's premium Infinum service. Some of them do require a vpn though. Strong vpn for about fifty bucks a year works for us.

Interesting replies. For those of you who get Hulu in Mex, does your computer have a Mex IP address or are you using some sort of proxy or VPN server?

I have commented on this topic many times. I use SuperDNS from overplay.net

It supports, Netflix, Amazon and Pandora

It is much cheaper and faster then a VPN. It spoofs the servers to think that you are sitting in the USA.

I only use www.free-tv-video.com. It has a huge selection of past and current Tv shows. It will even tell you when a new episode has aired. Pick a show and it will show you how many seasons the show has been on and you can go to the first pilot and watch every show ever aired. It has more avail. movies then I'll ever be around to watch. When you first try the site you have to learn how to get through the commercials and pop ups but once you learn its a great site. I'm so hooked back in the states I very seldom watch direct tv anymore. Mulege's DSL works great with this site.

Netflix(USA) streams well here in Loreto..along with YouTube and Hulu with a VPN or Not...

This is the website I use, as well, and as Blue mentioned, it's a pain to get used to but good once you have figured it out. However, the site is plagued by malware, so I did what my techie told me: passworded the admin account on my laptop, then I only use the Guest account to access the sites (I've got a second one):

It can be quite slow to stream, but last night I was so excited to be living at the beach at last (if only for a moment) that I could not sleep. So at 3am there was no wait!

I love my Smart TV and consider it worth every cent I paid for it. I have had it less than a year & it has ore than paid for itself. Now I want another bigger one!

Assuming we know where exactly you are "in Mexico" - which I don't... It can be painfully slow, depending on time of the day and/or location.

Other than that, it's simple, actually. Hulu is strictly US, so you have to pay to mask your IP. Netflix you can buy locally, so shouldn't be a problem, or again pay for masking your IP if you're trying to sit on 2 chairs and keep your US Netflix. Youtube has no restrictions, AFAIK. Pandora? Can't say, it's a radio and I'm not a big fan of listening to radio through cheesy TV set speakers.

For the last couple of weeks, Hulu has been denying me access because they know I'm using a VPN... guess I won't be renewing my subscription to WiTopia.

I can get either the Mex Netflix or use the VPV and get the US version.

I heard that Netfilx streams better than most because they monitor your download speed and adjust the feed accordingly. In short, sometimes you get higher definition than other times.
