dizzyspots - 6-1-2014 at 05:44 AM

Anyone out used a "yurt" as their Baja home? Pros ...cons...?
Saw a photo of one in a gallery...I think its at San Ignacio Lagoon?
Considering one for Gonzaga Bay??

There are different kinds of yurts being used down in Los Cabos and the surrounding area. The tent kind like in San Ignacio, very comfortable, I've stayed in these. Also, there are the solid, wood sided kind. I know there is a private school in SJD that has built the solid yurts. Probably a better choice from a security standpoint if you are not going to live there full time.

Love staying in the san Ignacio yurts! They are airy, comfortable and really beautiful works of art.

Jana and I have stayed there about a dozen times. Love the lagoon front serenity while sipping on some tequila at sunset.

There was an AC in our Yurt, but lots of open air gaps around the bathroom construction for 'wildlife' of the region to visit us that night.

Yurt or????

Last time I stayed in a Yurt, it was olive drab in color and called: Tent, GP, Small

I knoe they have a/c. Which probably is not all that efficient given the walls and roof.

Personally, when I stay in a hotel, I prefer real walls and roofs.

Sure, in a hotel... Ignacio Springs is not a hotel, or motel... it is a bed & breakfast that uses yurts with fantastic interiors and that view of the San Ignacio river to entice folks to pay so much to sleep in a "tent". Their breakfast is pretty killer too. http://ignaciosprings.com

I have a friend in Loreto who has a small yurt with built on bath. it's lovely to stay in, and she rents it as a room. however, it's hot in summer...there is an ac but it's not very efficient and I couldn't see trying to live in one in any of our hot weather climates. perhaps in other areas of Baja, obviously I don't know how they are in the cold.

Next query: They are sold as kits....so, lets assume I buy the kit...load it on trailer and haul it down to BG...how is the duty calculated?
