Another trip to Camp Gecko

Martyman - 6-2-2014 at 01:38 PM

I came with my better half this time. Now she is a new devotee to Baja.
We crossed the border in TJ-got our papers and hit the ATM and off to Valle de Guadelupe and our favorite winery in the area Montefiori. We also hit Alchemy Winery both good but they need to lower the prices a little. My wife works at a winery up in NorCal and we usually get a discount from other wineries. Both wineries not only charged full price but also charged us both tasting fees. No wonder we were the only ones there.
Spent the night at Hotel Marina and had dinner at El Rey Del Sol.
How long has Hussongs been giving out the 2 for 1 margarita special?
The next day we only went to Hotel Santa Maria in San Quintin. The Norra road rally was headed to Bahia De Los Angeles and we needed to miss that.
The next day we made to our shack at Gecko in Bahia De Los Angeles. Of course the boat didn't run and we were out of water and propane...but once we got that fixed (and the wind died down) we were off.
I must be a lousy fisherman as I hardly caught anything. Nets and traps were set in almost every inlet in the south bay. The best fish I caught was from shore about a 5lb pink pargo? It was tasty!
Spent 8 days at the cabin and played about 30 games of backgammon got through 2 books and some days I even took TWO naps! Pretty Impressive I thought. We did take in a new restaurant in Bahia-Punta Arena-very tasty!
On the way home we stayed at Jardines as Santa Maria was full. Nice, but too many grumpy gringos (smile dude you're on vacation!)
Saw some birds-black capped gnatcatchers, western tanager, American oystercatchers, blue footed booby and others.
All in all...great trip!

Hey Man....I look forward to kickin yer butt at backgammon sometime. Glad you had a good trip...I snuck into BOLA for a night on my way to Ensenada and it was 103 yesterday morning when we left...dang!

I hear the yellowtail fishing is picking up and the place is thick with squid too.

I ran into a few folks I knew there including Capt.Juan from San Quintin. It was a nice little visit.

Capt. Juan is a cool guy. I partied with him at Campo Sirena! He kept telling my kid to go back to college. Nice to hear from you Shari.

We had to blast them off to celebrate getting to camp. Thanks for the bonfire. See you next time.

Just got back from Bahia last night. Spent 2 weeks working on the house. Didn't get too much play time but got a lot of stuff done. Larry C was a big help with installing my new solar power system.

David K - We saw Mary Anne and she is fine. She left Bahia yesterday to meet up with an old friend in San Diego and will be spending the next couple months in the U.S.

I had my first visit to Gecko's this last week. Met some real nice folks, and had a great day on the water with Woody and Bia!
We fished with Joel. Made bait 100 meters from the ramp, and fished near-by. Four baits, four Yellows, we only weighed the #24 and the #22, but I'm going to claim close to 80 pounds. The perfect time to claim that Old Guys Rule, although Bia landed a beautiful 16 pound Halibut! (Sweet younger women rule too!)

Very nice Perry! Mas Pescados vs Mas Olas?

My new lucky fishing shirt!

Ateo - 6-13-2014 at 08:48 AM

Nice work Perry. Wish I could've made it.

What no phone call? Ha! Glad you enjoyed our lil piece of heaven! Connie and Brett

Me too, Jon. Our team needed someone who had played horseshoes before, other than my poor partner!

Sorry C and B, those folks kept my dance card well filled!! Your little piece of paradise is warmed by the very breath of Hell, but still a delightful place. I'll be returning, plus I found another dry lake to sail on! The wind did not stop howling from Wednesday morning for the next 24 hours until I exhausedly packed up and furled my sail to go. One crash, minor damage and not enough blood to worry about! With a little luck, video will follow.
