Baja Boat Storage

vacaenbaja - 6-5-2014 at 11:14 AM

I am toying with the idea of leaving a small 18 footer
in storage at Daggetts in BOLA. What pemits will I have to
get. Will I need a TIP? If a national would want to use my boat in my absence is this permited? I tried posting on the Boating section, but no joy.

There are no TIPs in Baja. People leave boats, cars, travel trailers, ATV, whatever. The only permit you need is the permit from senior Daggett which he will likely grant in exchange for a pile of greenbacks. Now, a storage of motor is a different story, they disappear sometimes.

Well the boat will start out with a motor. I hope that by it
being the rather unpopular Force mill of the 1985 vintage it will stay put, but who knows.

You most certainly DO have to have a TIP to use your boat in Baja. What used to be enforced on the mainland is now the rule for all of Mexico.

leaving a boat down there sounds like a great idea! if we would have had a storage facility in gonzaga we never would have built a place there:light:

WRONG!

There must be a maximum length of the boat before they start asking for TIP. Or as long as it is car-topable? 12ft Jon boat - no TIP. 14ft - no TIP. 17ft?

16 footers need 'em

Just went through a boat confiscation era last year with officials seizing boats throughout Mexico that lacked the TIP. That included Baja.

Probably not a "confiscation", but rather a suspension until captain gets his papers in order. I've heard of steep fines though. Something must have changed in the administration, a new broom.
