Russ,
Are you seeing many Dorado???? the Mulege tourny is today and tomorrow and I haven't seen any updates yet from our buddies there...

Wish we could have been there for both this year.... but new grandbabies take priority per the grandma.....

Justbozo - 6-6-2014 at 09:26 PM

Where did this come from?

"Helmet camera captures bike robbery in South Africa"

I found it in the line that starts with "Sat evening"

Careful with that cut and paste!!!

Just wish I were still there to partake in the tournament!!!

watizname - 6-6-2014 at 09:56 PM

Wish I was there. :(

Pescador - 6-8-2014 at 07:14 AM

There were some really nice fish weighed in both days of the Mulege tournament. Saw several in the 35-40 lb range. There were only scattered reports of people finding fish and the pre-fishing was definately slow, but the guys really came through. Will post final results when I get them.

mulegemichael - 6-8-2014 at 07:49 AM

some really nice bulls around; we got 3 over 30, one of which won the mulege tourney and it was 37+ pounds....also brought two nice marlin to the boat and released same....fun time!

Show off some photos please.

Hook - 6-8-2014 at 08:30 AM

Sounds like the conditions over here. Not many dorado but the ones that are caught are big.

Russ - 6-18-2014 at 05:53 AM

Hi :)
Just want to remind all those interested in out tournament that Friday is the Captains Meeting at 5 pm. There will be a lot of fun a long with the business of fishing. I just looked at the weather forecast and it looks to be really favorable even for tin boaters. That's something we haven't had in many years. The road is being graded the 4 days prior to the tourney so trailering in a boat should be at it's best. There are still only a few reports of dorado but those reporting are getting quality fish. The amount of prizes & raffle goodies are really something to be hold. All the volunteers have really gone all out to make this years event spectacular. Even if you are not fishing you'll find they really have put a lot of fun into this 3 day event.

Any results from the Chivato dorado tournament? How many anglers or boats entered?

Pescador - 6-23-2014 at 07:15 AM

There were 15 boats entered. The Calcutta auction was a huge success and raised close to $4000 dollars US. Fishing was either good or bad depending on the boat. Some boats did very well, some had a challenge finding fish. Winning fish was Zane Abbot on the El Sueno, 26.6 lbs, Paid $1,000
2nd went to Ron Folgner on the Reel EZE, 26.3 lbs, Paid $750, and Mike DeOrio on the Alex, with a 23.15, paid $500.

Five top placers were all given prepaid entries to the Loreto tournament in August which is a $50,000 tournament sponsored by FONMAR.

The raffle was extremely successful and everyone was really happy with the prizes.

Meals were fantastic and everyone had a really good time.

No BIG fish!? Where have they gone????

Hook - 6-23-2014 at 09:06 AM

Well, that's bigger than last year when a 12# dorado won that tournament.

We have big fish over here, but they are very RARE. Almost no peanuts.

I'll bet there have been at least 20 over 30# caught over here in the last two months. One was 50+.

But the dorado fishing has been anything but good. Certainly hundreds, if not thousands of boat hours, for that number of big dorado. It's the slowest year anyone can remember.

No sardines. No dorado. That's my story and I'm sticking to it. Although, admittedly, the water is so damn warm that we do occasionally meter schools of bait offshore that are down at 30-50 feet. We see lots of flying fish but they are docile; not being chased by predators much.

If you read between the lines, I dont think the dorado fishing is even that good at the East Cape this year. Gotta wade through the charter-op-speak.

Pescador - 6-23-2014 at 04:48 PM

Well, I was so busy with the tournament that I did not even think of launching, but today I went out and got a limit of 2 and both were in the 30 lb range. One 32.5 and the other 31.6 and it was a no brainer. I can't believe people fish without consulting Terrafin.com to get the breaks. We are having a banner year in the Santa Rosalia area because the seiners have taken all the mackerel and sardinas to feed the cottin' pickin' tuna for Japan in Ensenada and we just happen to have a boomer year for squid, so we have a lot of fish in the area that are here to feed on the hatching squid. Not normal, by any means, but it is concentrating the fish in certain areas. Last year we did not have that and it was necessary to go north to the midriff area to find them, but this year they are close and hungry. On a long term basis, it really spells trouble for the fishing, but by a fluke of nature we are enjoying a banner year.
