I was there 20 years ago for a conference, so much may have changed since then.
It was a charming town built on the steep hillside with a very tightly packed buildings. The roads are quite steep and twisty and large cars actually
hit the buildings since the roads are also very narrow. (I remember several bumps while eating in the hotel dining room. No one else seemed to notice.
The corners of many buildings show sign of similar collisions.)
Fantastic Baroque Church definitely worth a visit. Plain on the outside, unbelievably lavish inside.
Pleasant climate. Bring a jacket/umbrella- afternoon rain showers are likely in the mountains that far south.
Wonderful place to walk, lots of little shops and street vendors. There may have been cobblestones so bring good walking shoes. Historically a silver
mining town so lots of silver jewelry for sale.
On the same trip we also stayed in Cuernavaca. That's a beautiful place and if you have a chance I highly recommend visiting there also.

I drove there from Zihuatenejo about 10 years ago and it was beautiful. Very charming. Being that it's the silver jewelery capital of Mexico there are
tons of shops selling such. I remember seeing some truly amazing pieces there. The really good stuff isn't cheap but it's magnificent and unique. If

I drove there from Acapulco it took about 5 hours to drive one way. There wasn't much between Acapulco and Taxco, a lot of brush and desert and low
lying hills and the highways were ok except trash thrown all over the sides of the roads. There was no parking there when we got to Taxco but we were
in a rush. The streets were all cobblestone and very narrow. It was charming but since I had to get back to Acapulco, I couldn't really explore the
town. I think the suggestion is good to have a reservation before you get there. The hills are very steep so if walking up steep hills in the hot

I spent several days in Taxco last year....even on a motorcycle, the traffic was a nightmare.... I picked up a skin rash from the hotel swimming
pool....that took a month to get rid of....an interesting city nevertheless.
