The bus might be cheaper!! Denver to San Diego, trolley to TJ, bus to Loreto. I did two cross country bus trips one summer, not so bad, met a lot of interesting people.

Maybe post your pay pal account and see how many Nomads will contribute to your cause? :(:P:biggrin::biggrin:

Also from Colorado,, we have always taken an early flight from Dnvr to LAX then Alaska Airlines direct to Loreto, gets in mid afternoon... then return the same way...but the return from LAX to Dnvr is a late one..
It has been in the same price range that you mentioned...
Gotta shop it.... on the denver leg...
You maybe too close to your time frame to get a good rate on either leg...
Good Luck..

ligui - 6-18-2014 at 06:50 AM

No time for bus . Gotta work .

I like the contribute idea ...:bounce:

Alaska from colorado is mucho $$

Thanks guys :bounce: Wish i had time to drive :tumble:

mtnpop - 6-18-2014 at 06:55 AM

We have never used Alaska from Denver,,,, Just from LAX to Loreto as that is the only major carrier to Loreto unless thats changed recently...
We use the early bird whoever has the best price from Dnvr to LAX... but as I said... we usually purchase further out than 3 weeks....
Again... good luck....

Have you checked out low cost flight from Denver to San Diego and then Tijuana to Loreto? You would be limited to Thursday and Sunday.

jimgrms - 6-18-2014 at 07:35 AM

ligui this has to be a joke ? if not a joke use your credit card

durrelllrobert - 6-18-2014 at 08:22 AM

I see a r/t from DEN to LAX on Sprit Airlines for $236 departing 7/10 returning 7/17. From LAX to LTO you should find an Aeromexico flight.

If you have a friend in Loreto have him/her go to the Calafia office in Loreto and buy you a ticket. Round trip TJ to Lto is around $250 U S. It is a domestic flight so all your friend will need to provide is your name. You will have to have a photo ID to use the tickets. When you get to Loreto and TJ on the return flight you will not have to deal with customs since flights are domestic.
I've done this a couple of times with my daughter. Just have copies of the tickets sent to you electronically. No fuss no muss.

I bought a RT ticket today at Air Calfia office here in Loreto..$244 RT (TJ-LTO)..
You need to find an early flight into SD, as there is a 12 noon check-in for TJ (1:20 departure to Loreto).. plane flies Thur/ Sun each way..

Also on the net..

Didn't know about the 12 o'clock check in . Thanks , will have to get an early move on .

They are talking light snow in the mountains here up high . Loreto might be a bit of a change .

Thanks everyone ... I'll let you know what we end up with . :bounce:

BEWARE of Spirit Airlines extra fees. Your carry on bag alone could end up costing you $100 extra. Please read this before you book:

http://www.spirit.com/optionalservices

This is the WORST airline I've ever flown. Please be forewarned.

US Air Denver / Los Cabos round trip 7-10/7-13
$278 including taxes and fees.
With what you save buy a taxi or rent a car.

And then there is 5 hours ride Cabo to Loreto, a lot of fun after a long flight.

The whole topic is funny though. No time for bus and trolley, have to work - OK, then get you credit card and buy that Denver-SAN-LTO flight that you've found. Yes, you can fly to SAN, take taxi to the border and then TJ-LTO and save maybe $100 (taxi from SAN to the border and back is expensive), and you'll have more complex itinerary to deal with.

woody with a view - 6-19-2014 at 03:28 PM

and since it's work you should live it up, stay at a fancy hotel and write it off!

I absolutely dare anyone to drive from SJD to Loreto in five hours. It certainly can be done in a day, but five hours is the result of someone smoking something funny. Just about as funny as buying a taxi.:lol::lol::lol:

Alm - 6-19-2014 at 06:42 PM

BH, it will not take full day to get from Cabo to Loreto even by bus. Used to be 8 hours, with all the scheduled stops. Maybe the road has become longer somehow...

ligui - 6-20-2014 at 05:00 AM

Talked to a friend in loreto yesterday and he said there is road work in many spots between loreto and la paz. Takes hours just to get though work areas .

Woody , taking your plan . First Class it is ! Credit card look out !

Time for some fun and work mix .

Alm where did a trolley get into the mix ? No way cabo to loreto by car in 5 hours .

rhintransit - 6-20-2014 at 06:57 AM

Currently nine construction sites between Constitucion and Loreto. Adds at least one hour to the trip. Or more, depending on the length of time spent at the Mirador (between Pto Escondido and Loreto) one. My personal best there is currently 45 minutes although I know someone who clocked 72.

vandenberg - 6-20-2014 at 06:58 AM

If you could make it from CSL airport to La Paz, you can get a flight on Calafia to Loreto for $47.00, cheaper than driving.

I believe, in the very 1st answer to your post. You quoted $680 price and asked for "help", so people suggested cheaper options. Bus and trolley is an easy way to get from SAN airport to the border, a lot cheaper than taxi and not much longer.

ligui - 6-21-2014 at 09:01 AM

Sorry Alm , didn't know San Diego had a trolley .

Bob and Susan - 6-21-2014 at 09:09 AM

bus 992 is from the airport to the trolly station...leaves every 15 mintes
$2.25 usa...exact change

the trolly takes you directly to the border... $2.50
starbucks RIGHT there at the station $2.50 ; )

taxi to the airport right as you cross about 200 pesos
luggage can be carried by assistants that work for tips as you cross

it's actually really easy

Or if you can time it right, the Volaris shuttle, direct from SD airport or Amtrak station direct to Tijuana airport with a quick stop for you to walk across the border...for $24.

I still like the idea of flying from Denver to SJD. Just be prepared to make a 7 hour drive (not five) up to the Loreto area. After all, if you took some of the suggested options, with the trolley, Etc. You would be adding much time on the ground. Flying from Denver to SJD, and renting a car, is what I would do.

A lot of stress, driving that distance after a long flight. Financially, it's not going to be cheaper than SAN-TJ-LTO either.
