My son and I are looking to do some shore fishing near the house. Problem is, we don't have rods and reels made for saltwater. We brought out little
light/medium action lake/river rods and reels from home, but they quickly rusted from the salt water and we're in need of new ones.
Any ideas where to find a tackle shop in this area? I can't seem to find any place to buy a rod and reel, let alone some tackle.

I started visiting that area in the 70s with a surfboard strapped to the roof of my car. I've never seen a tackle shop. The first boat ramp you come
to travelling south is at La Salina, and that's relatively new. There aren't many Mexican sport fisherman in the area and the gringos that fish there
bring their gear with them.
The most prevalent Mexican tackle I've seen for shore fishing is a hand line with an old spark plug for a sinker.
San Diego is probably your best bet, maybe Ensenada.

Ensenada has a tackle shop on the main road next to the movie.

I always see lots of rods and reels and simple tackle (new and used) at the segundo's. that said its mostly crap that probably won't last any longer
than your freshwater gear

Best bet might be a trip back north to Wally World in San Diego

hey I just saw an ad in the baja times for new and used rods, reels, and tackle at the popotla (trailer park) swap meet next sunday 8-1 might be
worth a look!

It's really not so far to San Diego. Go on a Saturday - go to the swap meet on Sports Arena Blvd. - pick up sinkers and an assortment of lures - maybe
some filament. Afterward, go to Big 5 a few blocks away, West Marine is in the same mini-mall, and the ultimate tackle store, Squidco, is 1/4 mi. away
on Midway Dr./Barnett Ave. There is also a Sport Chalet near the swap meet on Midway Dr. You might as well check out the Goodwill across the street
from the Big 5 to see if they have any poles.

Rods and reels, no.
however, there was / is a lure manufacturing company just south of the Ensenada Modelorama / Corona store. Just around the corner they make them
fresh.
