San Evaristo to Ciudad Constitucion GPS track request

motoged - 7-3-2014 at 03:08 PM

Nomads,
Does anyone have a GPS track they are willing to share for the routes between San Evaristo to Ciudad Constitucion?

There seem to be several optional routes....and I am planning my Dec-Jan. moto ride.

While I am planning on doing this section just around New Years, I will be leaving Todos Santos around Dec 28/29th, slabbing it to the turnoff at El Centenario , and heading up the coast from there.

My plan is to rejoin some riding buddies in Mulege about 4 days later....and hope to go from Ciudad Insurgentes the back way to San Javier and then through the Comondus to San Isidro to Mulege.

I will be prepared to camp but a room along the way is a good idea....

Thanks for any gps track offers . :saint:

What bike are you riding?

motoged - 7-3-2014 at 04:20 PM

David,
Taking the 690 for all riding south of Mulege....and have the 450 in the trailer for the serious stuff between BoLA and El Rosario.

i am riding solo as my partner bailed last week for those sections between Todos and Mulege.....I am open to having a rider or three join me for this loop if they are willing to camp a night or two along the way (most likely between LA Paz and Constitucion for one sleep....maybe the second will be in Comondu/San Isidro areas if rooms are unavailable).

You are more than welcome (at least as a respected Platoon member, if not for your sandwich-making abilities  )....but I realize that time zone is when most folks are holidaying with family....and not bashing around outback.

Cable it well when you park it in towns, so it doesn't wander off, like at San Felipe!

Neal Johns, Fernweh, TW, Jack Swords, BajaTripper, Blair are some Nomads who have written about the area... If I find a GPS track I will let you know!

Here is a post from Jack on May 7,

2012:
Hate to just jump in this thread, but did the Highway 1, Mission Gonzaga, to Evaristo and back to La Paz several times in Feb/March 2012. Grade down to Evaristo better than I've seen in years, probably due to no hurricanes the past two years. Getting lost is the best part, stopping at ranchos, meeting great people, getting the correct road. More fences, private property signs than in the past. Lots of water in the streams (why?), had 4WD, but only used 2WD. Plan on going back several times next year! What aview of the islands from above the SOC before heading down to Evaristo. Filled up with gas in La Paz, had quarter tank when we rerurned (2010 4Runner). Do it!

Nomad member 'Blair', on a moto did that section on Day 2: http://forums.bajanomad.com/viewthread.php?tid=59756

Murdoc has the USR and KML files for the 2012 NORRA Mexican 1000 that went from Constitucion by San Evaristo to La Paz. If you have problems using them I can probably get a Garmin file of that section from some friends.

Ged,

We might take the diesel and be a support truck for you.

Keep us posted on the plans and itinerary.

Have wanted to to Evaristo to Constitucion forever and keep putting it off.

Rooms vs camping

John M - 7-4-2014 at 03:05 PM

When we left Comondu heading for San Isidro we were planning on camping as it was getting on toward late afternoon. The very rocky climb immediately as you leave San Jose Comondu (like a two mile rock/boulder road) slowed us some. Then once we got half way to San Isidro there wasn't much terrain for camping, mostly rocks and cactus. We pulled off several places but no good for us - rocks and more rocks. Got to San Isidro, no rooms, as it was getting late we went another mile or so west to La Purisima. I thought I had seen on Nomad of a motel, couldn't find it. So my wife asked some kids and they pointed us right to it. Hard to notice it on the main road through La Purisima as it's really on a little side street to the north. Clean and $25 for the night. There is a very good market/store directly across the main road from the motel.

Motel entrance black arrow.

Thank you John. Did you take any photos at the mission site in La Purisima, a block east of the motel? Just rubble and crypts... One never knows when locals or INAH begins to restore these sites... GPS: 26°11'25.6" 112°04'22.6"

John,
Thank you for that info.....i have travelled this area a few times in the past three years and have enjoyed that motel in La Purisma...

I am aware that San Isidro has some accomodations but I have not had to look for them. This past January I was in Comondu and saw the new motel that was almost open....and know there are a few rooms that people rent .....

I think that the road between Comondu and San Isidro looks like inhospitable terrain, but my idea of camping for this upcoming trip would be to find a 5X8 flat spot that will accept my tent.....and let my sleeping pad make the hardpack seem luxurious  .... Riding a dirtbike through that area leaves me tuckered out at the end of the day.....and as long as I have water, something to munch on, and some toilet paper, I am doing OK. :light:

Here is a link to my ride report of moto ride from San Ignacio to Mulege to La Purisma to San Ignacio to Bahia Asuncion to San Ignacio a couple of years ago with another Nomad (have to read it to find out who..... )

http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=666961

Some sample pics from La Purisma and Comondu....

Mula,
I would be thrilled to share that route with you and Dan....my present thoughts are that I would like to take my time and plan on an overnight.....maybe in the fishing village at San Evaristo.

That would bring me/us to Insurgentes the second evening.....and then I could make my way to San Javier and Comondu for my third day....and San Isidro to Mulege the next...

I suppose we would rendezvous late morning in El Centenario for our start Dec 28 or 29th.

I will continue this with you via U2U.

Hey....you could carry 40 lbs of gear
